Why You're Never Too Old For Disney

Why You're Never Too Old For Disney
Marissa Reilly

My first trip to Walt Disney World was when I was nine months old and I've probably gone a hundred times since then. My family loves Disney and that it's something everyone of all ages can enjoy. I've camped there, stayed in hotels, gone on Senior Trip and experienced it with my friends, and even visited Disneyland in California twice. To me, it never gets old and I'm always looking forward to the next time I'll be able to visit. So many people think it's just for little kids but I can't help but think they're dead wrong.

Walt Disney's purpose for developing Disneyland & Disney World was so that kids and parents could both enjoy a theme park.

Walt Disney always stated how he loved taking his daughters to carnivals and amusement parks but always hated how he just had to sit and watch them have fun. The rides were adapted for kids so the parents were forced to just sit on a bench and watch. He wanted to create a place that was fun for the whole family. Yes, they do have some rides that are more "kiddie rides", but you'd be surprised how fun they actually can be if you give them a chance.

There are so many Disney parks now that you can turn visiting one into a road trip or travel adventure.

Disney has expanded all over the world so the possibilities are endless when visiting. There's Disneyland Resort in California, USA, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, USA, Aulani Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii, USA, Disneyland Paris Resort, Tokyo Disney Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, Shanghai Disney Resort, plus the Disney Cruise Line and Adventures by Disney all over the world!

Their movies often provide really great life lessons.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes from some of my favorite Disney movies:

"The past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it." — Rafiki, The Lion King

"The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all." — The Emperor, Mulan

"You don't have time to be timid. You must be bold and daring." — Lumière, Beauty and the Beast

"Even miracles take a little time." — Fairy Godmother, Cinderella

"You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." — Christopher Robin, Winnie the Pooh

"If watching is all you're gonna do, then you're gonna watch your life go by without ya." — Laverne, The Hunchback of Notre Dame

"Our fate lives within us; you only have to be brave enough to see it." — Merida, Brave

"Sometimes the right path is not the easiest one." — Grandmother Willow, Pocahontas

"Sometimes we only see how people are different from us. But if you look hard enough, you can see how much we're all alike." — Jasmine, Aladdin

Everything tastes better Mickey shaped, no matter how old you are.

Don't lie to yourself, unless you've had ice cream or a waffle or a pretzel shaped like Mickey Ears, you haven't had the best out there.

Disney can even be a resume builder.

Disney offers something called the Disney College Program. You can have the opportunity to do a paid internship at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida or Disneyland Resort in California. Ranging from ride operators to characters to food service, there is a multitude of opportunities for Cast Members. Who wouldn't want to live in Disney for a semester working for Mickey Mouse? Did I mention you get passes to go into the parks when you're not working?

As you get older, the more creative you can be!

I went to Walt Disney World during the summer of 2016 and will be going back this summer. I loved seeing all the creative Mickey/Minnie ears people made. I knew I was pretty crafty so I decided to try and make some of my own. I ended up making eight pairs and I'm making another seven for my upcoming trip! It was a super fun way to get excited about my trip and while I was there I got endless compliments and people asking me where I bought them from. Which by the way, you can buy the ones I made from my Etsy shop.

There are so many things you can do at Disney that's fun for the whole family. I've loved Disney forever, my parents love it, and even my grandparents love it. Disney has no age limit, so don't be ashamed to embrace it! As Walt Disney said:

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.
