Though "The Little Prince" was written as a children’s book, it’s a favorite of all ages. The novel was originally written in French by aviator and writer, Antoine de Saint-Exupery. The book includes watercolor illustrations by the author himself. "Le Petit Prince" has been translated into over 250 languages and is one of the most translated and most read books in the world.
The story’s narrator is an aviator who crashed-landed in a desert, and soon after meets the little boy prince from another planet. The little prince tells his new found friend of his home planet and of his adventures visiting others.
The little prince’s character is sure to delight and provide you with some food for thought. The prince tells the aviator about his home, asteroid B-612. On his home planet, the prince tells the aviator about his love for watching sunsets and of his beloved rose. The little prince tells of the odd personalities he meets on different planets, including the king, the conceited man, the drunkard, the businessman, the lamplighter and the geographer. The prince is often perplexed by those he encounters, and decides “Grown-ups are really very odd.”
Antoine de Saint-Exupery flooded his novel with poetic quotes that have made the book so touching:
“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.”
“Language is the source of misunderstandings.”
“It is the time that you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important.”
“It is lonely among people, too.”
“It does not matter that you are not here in person, as long as you are here in my heart.”
"The Little Prince" can be many different things to those who read it. It can be a simple children’s book that passes the time, or a book that can change your perspective on the world around you. This book can be whatever you make it.
I hope you decide to read this classic novel, and go on a journey of your own with the charming little prince.
