Today's standards of dating are twisted. That's not to say that they are wrong but slightly backwards. Modern day dating has become casual sex with a chance of dinner and a movie. Whereas it used to be casual dinner and movie with a possibility of sex. Jim, on the other hand, holds himself to his own standard and it is working. Here's how to be more like Jim Halpert

1. Be there for her even if you're not getting anything in return.

It's simple. Jim was there for Pam. Despite Pam's early engagement Jim went out of his way to make her life easier. Chivalry isn't extinct but can be found on the endangered list. When Halpert does something kind for Pam he isn't thinking about himself but he is thinking about Pam's feelings. Whether it's holding a door for her or listening to her vent, don't do it for yourself.

2. Sacrifice.

This is a word we don't hear as often as we should. In a world where it's all about me, me, me and I, I , I relationships struggle because people get too caught up in themselves. This is where Jim thrives. He doesn't restrict, restrain or hold Pam back. He doesn't get in the way of her following her passion in art and pursuing her dream all while supporting her. It's not easy but it only strengthens their bond. This is why sacrifice is important.

3. If you want to be more than bump buddies, friendship should a priority.

Before Jim and Pam even thought about locking lips, a strong friendship was established. This didn't change when their relationship changed. Being able to poke fun and joke with each other makes your day easier and sometimes that's needed. Jim takes it upon himself to include Pam with all of his office pranks. I mean after all it's called boy FRIEND and girl FRIEND.

4. It's okay to talk about your feelings.

Tell her how you feel. Keeping things to yourself is not healthy for either person. Talking about what you feel isn't weak and it's a lot less confusing in the long run. If Jim would've missed this one his life would've turned out a lot different. Don't let your ego or pride get in the way of opening up to the person you care about the most. They are there because they care for you so let them do it. Let them care for you.

We can't all be Jim and we shouldn't want to, but we can take a couple tips from him and apply them to our daily lives. Whether you're already in a relationship, or headed there, remember to keep these four things in mind.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way.
