In December and the days leading up to Christmas everyone’s focus is on Jesus. He is coming, he will be born, and everything is great. Then January first comes around and now we are focused on our unrealistic resolutions to lose 30 pounds or to use that gym membership we have had for years. That’s it, the focus is gone. Jesus is born, then we forget. Will Farrell’s character Ricky-Bobby prefers to picture and pray to the baby Jesus, very quickly Chip reminds us that “He was a man, he had a beard.” Jesus did grow up. Jesus was not a baby forever.
It’s only a couple of months later that Easter arrives and now we celebrate and morn his death. He had a whole life that we miss, we skip right over it. Everyone knows the Christmas story, most people know the Easter story, but do we know anything else? Any of the one hundred miracles he performed? Though it is not fully documented Jesus was a teenager, was a toddler, was a 20 year old, and was a man. With a beard. Jesus is still Jesus after Christmas. We should all prioritize him every month as much as we do in December.
