"What a Friend we have in Jesus..."

These are the first few words of one of my favorite hymns written by Joseph Scriven in 1855. Even though this hymn was written over 150 years ago, its words still ring true today. Jesus is many things to me- the Son of God, my Savior, righteous, my Redeemer, the list goes on and on. But on top of all that, Jesus is also my friend. A friendship with Him is unlike any other, and He's the best friend you'll ever have! Here are just a few (out of many) reasons why:

He loves us with an everlasting love. More in a moment than anyone else could in a lifetime. He proved that to us when He humbled himself on the cross for our sins. That's the ultimate love story. 1 John 3:16a states, "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us." Jesus Christ = love. And what a blessing it is to have a friend who loves us! Not because He has to, but because He WANTS to. Even on the days that I fail Him, He still loves me.

He is for us. We are constantly reminded throughout His word that Jesus is on our side. A perfect example being Romans 8:31, which says "What then shall we say to these things? If He is for us, who can be against us?" He wants what's best for us, and He's rooting for us! He is constantly planning things out for us, He always has been and always will be. And everything He does for us is for our good and His glory, even if we may not always realize it right away. (Romans 8:28)

He will never leave us. Isn't it great that we have a Friend who keeps His promises? He promises us in Hebrews 13:5 that He will never leave or forsake us. And He hasn't broken that promise yet, nor will he ever. Through every trial and tribulation, He is right beside us guiding us through every step (that is if we let him).

So yes, as Joseph Scriven said: what a friend we have in Jesus. A friend who loves us unconditionally, who supports us always, and who stays with us. My savior is also my best friend, and what a faithful friend He is!

"No longer do I call you servant, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you."

John 15:15

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
