Jesus Chrysler! What is happening to the car industry? We have heard the good, but lately things seem to be going downhill. The auto industry has faced recent struggles and recalls of various vehicles, especially Chrysler products. So let’s discuss…
Chrysler was founded in 1925 by the man himself, Walter Chrysler and has gone through several different names: Chrysler Corporation (1925-1998), DaimlerChrysler AG (1998-2007), Chrysler LLC (2007-2009), Chrysler Group LLC (2009-2014), and FCA(Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) US LLC (2014-Present). Chrysler used to be successful. Yeah...”used to be.” How many times has any car company been on the news for the right reasons? Not that often. Its like every time that we turn on the news, there’s another recall or safety issue. According to safercar.gov, “At least 11 million cars and trucks built by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), including Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicles, are currently subject to a recall as part of a 2015 NHTSA enforcement action.” In an article September of 2016 by Ivana Kottasova, Chrysler recalled 1.9 million cars and SUVs over airbag and seatbelt defects linked to three deaths. In April of 2016, “Chrysler recalled 1.1 million cars and SUVs worldwide because of a gear selector problem that killed actor Anton Yelchin.”
Not only has Chrysler gone through recalls in recent years, but plants and facilities are closing as well. There are a total of 37 different factories around the world: United States (23), Canada (6), Mexico (7), and Venezuela (1). In 2009, “Eight plants closed under Chrysler bankruptcy.” By early 2017, so probably right about now, it won't be making automobiles in the U.S. “Fiat Chrysler's U.S. plants will be focusing entirely on pickups and SUVs for the Ram and Jeep brands.
Not only is the industry facing all of these issues, but the reviews and complaints going on in the world of social media are ridiculous. According to the Twittersphere, many Chrysler vehicles were not in good shape and the employees were not cooperative. Additionally, CarComplaints.com notes there are 6,370 complaints on file for Chrysler vehicles. The worst models are the 2002 Sebring, 2001 Sebring, 2015 200, 2004 Sebring, and the 2006 300.”
Unfortunately the auto industry hasn’t been in the best shape lately, especially Chrysler which has been in a decline for the last 10 years. When you have to remove your automobiles out of the United States, where Walter Chrysler founded this car company, that is not a good sign at all. I wonder what Walter Chrysler is feeling about his beloved car brand? Maybe it is about that time to say goodbye to Chrysler...
