This weekend on July 28th, 2018 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada the UFC will be at the Scotiabank Saddledome as the #3 ranked Lightweight in the world Eddie Alvarez takes on the #4 ranked Lightweight Dustin Poirier in their highly anticipated rematch. In the Co-Main event, the former UFC featherweight champion #2 ranked Jose Aldo returns to the Octagon facing off against the #4 ranked featherweight "Lil Heathen" Jeremy Stephens. Former UFC Strawweight champion #1 ranked Joanna Jedrzejczyk meets #5 ranked strawweight, Tecia Torres. To open up the main card, it will be lightweights clashing as the #13 Alexander Hernandez will face off against Olivier Aubin-Mercier.
After their controversial ending to their first bout, Eddie Alvarez will face Dustin Poirier to finish what they started in their last bout. Their last fight ended when Eddie Alvarez hit Dustin with illegal knees to the face while Dustin's hands were on the mat. After the fight, it was ruled a no contest. The last time we saw "The Underground King" Eddie Alvarez he knocked out Justin Gaethje in an incredible war in the 3rd round at UFC 218. A win over Dustin for Eddie can set him up for for a chance to become the Lightweight Champion once again with a bout with the current champ Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Dustin Poirier is coming off of 2 wins as he also defeated Justin Gaejthe by TKO in the 4th round at UFC On Fox 29. He also defeated Anthony "Showtime" Pettis by body triangle at UFC Fight Night 120. A win over Eddie Alvarez can be huge for Dustin as it would definitely set him up for a possible title shot against Khabib. Dustin is aiming to make sure that the fight does not end like it did last time.
In the Co-Main event, the #2 ranked Featherweight Jose Aldo is looking to get back to the title as he defends his spot against the #4 ranked Jeremy Stephens. Aldo is coming off of back to back losses to the current UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway. A win for Aldo can be huge if he can take the momentum away from Jeremy Stephens. Things are still very unclear about what is going on with the health of the champ Max Holloway so it will be interesting to see how the division unfolds.
The #4 ranked Jeremy Stephens has been on a tear and looks to add Jose Aldo to his list of victims. He is on a 3 fight win streak with his latest victory being via KO to Josh Emmet. After the championship bout between Max Holloway and the #! ranked Featherweight Brian "T-City" Ortega was canceled a few weeks ago, Jeremy protested to get the bout with Brian but Ortega declined. Dana White stated it would have been for the Interim-Featherweight Championship but Jeremy has been calling Brian's bluff saying he is running. Brian is saying he just went through a full fight camp for the champion and this fight was just not an option at the moment. A win for Jeremy over Aldo can be huge and definitely can set him up for an interim title bout with "T-city" if he can defeat the former champion.
The #1 ranked Strawweight Joanna Jedrzejczyk meets the #5 ranked Tecia Torres. Joanna is looking to shake off her last loss against the Champion Rose Namajunas in their amazing rematch. She is also looking to prove why she is the best in her division still. A win over Tecia can be huge and it would be interesting to see how it unfolds seeing how Rose said she would not give Joanna another shot at the belt unless she publicly said Rose was the best. Tecia Torres is coming off of a loss to Jessica Andrade who is most likely the next contender for the title. Tecia is looking to Joanna and break into the top 3 fighters in the Woman's Strawweight division and also set her up for a possible title shot.
To open up the main card Lightweights will meet in the octagon as #13 ranked Alexander Hernandez faces off against Olivier Aubin-Mercier. Alexander is coming off of a TKO in his last bout against Beneil Dariush. A win for Alexander will get him closer to breaking into the top 10 in the lightweight division. Olivier is also coming off of a TKO victory against Evan Dunham. A win for Olivier over Alexander could break him into the top 15, this fight is a great way to open up the Main Card.
