My dad and I have a nightly tradition of watching Jeopardy while eating dinner. I guess I never really realized how much Jeopardy I actually watch until I went to college and no longer had a T.V. Upon moving back home I have begun the tradition again and I would just like to say that Jeopardy is one of my favorite television shows ever.
For one thing, Jeopardy is a competition. Nothing is more fun than beating people at being smart. Jeopardy is not like other game shows because luck has nothing to do with winning. Wheel of Fortune and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and all those other game shows pale in comparison. Jeopardy has no random spinning wheel, no lifelines, it's just you and your brain.
Jeopardy teaches you things! Every time I come across a category that I know I don't know any answers to, it gives me a chance to learn about a topic that I previously knew nothing about. On the flip side, it's validating to come across a topic that you know you'll absolutely destroy. I get super hyped when anything art or literature related comes up because that is what I know and what I've studied for so long.
Jeopardy also deals with money and making smart choices regarding said money. Someone can be leading the game, but if they bet all their money on a Double Jeopardy and get it wrong they lose everything. It is not just a game of wits, but a game of strategy.
No reality television show can compare to the awkward rambling the contestants do when they have their little moment of fame, but nothing can ever compare to Alex Trebek's little quips when a contestant says something completely idiotic.
The best part about Jeopardy is that it's only half an hour long. I write this article in the hopes that everyone will start watching Jeopardy because it is truly that greatest T.V. show of all time.
