The place where resolutions go to die.

The January Gym

There used to be a place called “The Gym” where I could go, hop on a treadmill, and suffer for 20 minutes without disruption. I could go into the weight room and pick up any weight that I wanted. My favorite machine was always open. I was on a first name basis with the other gym regulars. During the month of January, this place called “The Gym” disappeared. The first day of January, I walked into the gym to find a surge of sweaty chaos. People with New Year’s resolutions were everywhere.

There was a line at the water fountain.

My favorite machine was taken.

My second favorite machine was taken.

None of the cute pink weights were left in the weight room.

Half the machines were broken.

I tried to find my gym friends...

Eventually, I gave up and enjoyed watching the newbies join the struggle bus.

Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
