"Jane the Virgin" is a popular new TV series that started in 2014 and already has many awards under its belt. Hopefully, if you're reading this, you are already familiar with the show and have seen all of it, because there will be quite a bit of spoiler in here. If you have not seen it all, you can watch it on Netflix or online at The CW. JTV is based on the telenovela "Juana la virgen." Since it does have a very telenovela vibe, there is an abundance of drama.
While there are multiple story lines going on, my favorite is the drama between Rafael and Michael, and Jane's feelings towards them both. No doubt, the whole Sin Rostro/Rose ordeal still has me on my toes, and I am really wondering what Petra/Natalia's future will look like with the babies and her psychotic mother. But right now, I'm going to focus on Rafael and Michael. Who should Jane pick? Some say Michael, some say Rafael. Let's recap on the two relationships!
Michael Cordero Jr.
Okay! Lets talk about Michael. They met when a noise complaint was called on Jane for her 21st birthday party, and he was the responding officer. He was together with Jane for two years, and they even got engaged! Michael is a detective and likes to keep people safe—especially Jane. He supports Jane's goal of becoming a teacher, and they even synced each others calendars and had a timeline for their relationship. But everything changes when Jane is inseminated with another man's baby.
Michael has a criminal past that he kept from Jane for a long time, and he also does some shady work with Petra by taking her necklace from the crime scene. Why? Because he didn't want to raise the baby Jane is having, which he later changes his mind about. At marriage counseling, Jane confesses that she's been having dreams about Rafael and Michael thinks that they shouldn't get married. Jane finds out that Michael was hiding information about Petra cheating on Rafael, and she calls off their engagement. Although they maintain a civil relationship after their split, Jane comes to believe that it isn't safe for Michael to be around Mateo since Mateo was stolen by Sin Rostro.
Rafael Solano
Although his official relationship with Jane came after the breakup between Jane and Michael, Rafael knew Jane first. When Jane was 19 and working at a yacht club, she shared a long conversation and a kiss with Rafael, but never spoke to him again until after finding out she'd been artificially inseminated with his child. Rafael used to be a player and partier, but cancer turned his life around. Rafael is owner of The Marbella, which is the same hotel that Jane works at. Rafael knows that Jane wants to be a teacher, but he also knows about her dreams of writing. After being inseminated with his baby, Jane becomes very attracted to Rafael.
They enter into a relationship after she calls off her engagement with Michael. Rafael is wanting a divorce from Petra, and he and Jane start to make plans to raise Mateo together. We get to see much more of their relationship, including what Jane calls the most romantic night ever, where they talked about rapping and fear of ducks, family problems and more. After Rafael's mother comes back into his life, he unexpectedly tells Jane that he thinks they should take a break.
Both of these men have shady pasts. Both have hurt Jane in some ways and both have had great times with her. They both care deeply about her and about Mateo, but there is never a shortage of drama on "Jane The Virgin." Personally, I find it very hard to say who I think Jane will end up with. I'm leaning towards Michael because their relationship was great before the insemination and crazy drama filled life. Their relationship started before Jane knew her favorite telenovela star was her dad, before the Sin Rostro case made Jane's work location a crime scene and before a mishap at the OB-GYN. If they can work out their issues, I think they can find true love in each other.
However, Jane still needs Rafael to be involved in her life because Mateo is his biological child, so she will have to mend her relationship with him and lay down boundaries so she doesn't get into any more guy drama. This also means Rafael and Michael will have to be a little nicer towards each other, and definitely not have another conversation like the one before the sonogram.
"Jane The Virgin" comes back from hiatus on Monday, Jan. 25, and will air Mondays at 9 p.m. eastern time on The CW.
