Jaclyn Hill: A True Inspiration

All it took was one video and I was hooked.

Jaclyn Hill: A True Inspiration
bustle.com

Around the age of 11, I started using the Internet religiously. I used it for my homework, crafting ideas, and for my own personal entertainment. At such a young age, I was not allowed to have a social media profile, and to this day my mom still doesn’t know about my MySpace account I made at age 14 (sorry mom). Therefore, I lived vicariously through YouTube videos. I watched comedy videos, stunt tricks, music videos, and so much more on a daily basis. I loved watching YouTube so much that I completely forgot the television even existed.

When I began high school, I thought YouTube was lame. I deleted my account, and only turned to YouTube when I ran out of Pandora skips. However, one day I was doing my make up and was struggling to apply my foundation correctly. So I Google searched: “How to apply foundation.” Millions and millions of pages, advertisements, and videos popped up on my feed. As I was scrolling I noticed a bubbly, redheaded makeup artist by the name of Jaclyn Hill, on YouTube. So I clicked her link, and watched her flawless foundation routine video. After watching the video, I couldn’t help but to click on all of her videos. It’s thanks to Jaclyn Hill my face was saved from mass destruction of makeup malfunction.

If you are a fellow “YouTuber”, makeup fanatic, or just simply have no clue how to even put mascara on, please go watch her videos. I promise you, you will not regret it.

I’ve been a fan of Jaclyn’s for about three years now, following her on YouTube, Snap Chat, Facebook and Twitter. The thing about Jaclyn is, she is real. She tells you nothing but the truth, and speaks from her soul. She teaches you about life, struggling, love, faith, hope, and so much more. She is humble, kind, fun, and loving. She has taught me so much about myself that I did not even know.

Jaclyn taught me about love. She married her sweetheart, Jon, as a teen, but is still happily married today. Being in a long-term relationship, myself, at such a young age is scary. Being long distance is even scarier. However, Jaclyn Hill taught me that love is a good thing and if you’re in love, then go for it and take a chance. The outcome will be amazing. So thank you, Jaclyn, for giving me hope in love!

She taught me that starting from the bottom is okay. She has been at the lowest of lows. She speaks about when she was newly married; her and Jon had nothing and struggled to get rent in on time. She survived solely off of McDonald’s oatmeal, 3 times a day. But she persevered and followed her dreams. During her uprising, she remained humble. Sure she is better off now, but she worked hard for what she has and earned every bit of it.

She taught me not to judge a book by its cover. Jaclyn suffers from an anxiety disorder. Although this does not pertain to me, it teaches me to be kind and understanding because you don’t know what people are going through on the inside. You don’t know anything about that stranger on the street, so why judge him before truly knowing who he is?

Jaclyn also brightened up my vocabulary. I find myself using the words and phrases buttery, YAAAS, slay, oldie but a goodie, and so much more!

Thank you, Jaclyn, for being such an amazing role model. Your brightness and sincerity really does change the way all of your subscribers, including myself, look at life. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for starting your channel, giving us laughs and cries each week, pushing us to be kind, humble, and thoughtful young men and women, and for just simply “slaying.”

You rock! Congrats on 3 million subscribers!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
