I've Picked My Side

My one and only response to all of this.

It's been said that if you stay neutral in a situation you have chosen the side of the oppressor. But how can one even choose the side of the oppressor when both sides are facing turmoil?

I don't voice my opinions on social media because I know that there will always be a way that my words are twisted. We all naturally have a way of doing that. We want one person to either seem with or against us so we twist the words they say to make them fall under the umbrella we want them to be in.

The more I see all of the problems we are facing as a nation, the more you can notice the separation we are creating in ourselves.

How can we unite as a whole and fight together against all of the tragedy happening outside of the United States? We're too busy fighting each other. We become weaker as a country if we can't stand tall with any of our fellow men regardless of race, profession, gender and religion.

The more hatred we show, the more hatred our future generations will be accustom to. If we don't change it now, the problems will just continue to get worse.

Yes, I understand that people want the world to see their problems. People want the world to feel their pain. But you can't have them feel that pain by inflicting pain.

I am a woman of color, I stand with all people of color not feeling oppressed. I stand with people of color not being judged because of the shade of their skin. I am a daughter of a cop, I stand with police on not being hurt when they had nothing to do with the original situation. I stand with police being allowed to go to work everyday to make a living for their families they wish to return to. I am a city girl so I grew up with all religions as well, I don't care if my friends are christian like me or believe in something else. I believe in humanity.

I don't vocalize my opinions because I stand with all my fellow Americans. I stand with you regardless of your race, profession, gender or religion.

I've seen how women are mistreated, used as objects and unable to have a voice of their own in a certain situation. I've seen how people of color are mistreated, being placed into a stereotype and then judged based on what is perceived to be their character. I've seen how cops are mistreated, being seen as the bully because they wanted to work their dream job of helping us all. I've seen how muslims are mistreated, automatically being seen as an alliance with a terrorist group when all they wanted to do was pray.

I've watched my dad leave to work on a daily basis knowing the struggles cops face everyday and just hoped that he would come home to me at the end of each day. I've seen a male get a position I earned, because they didn't think I was qualified being a female. I've seen some of my own friends get harassed by peers and elders due to their skin color and/or religion.

Yes, there are a few bad seeds. But, if we continue to treat everyone that remotely resembles that bad seed our country won't last. We will continue to destroy this country from the inside out.

We are a part of the United States. A country filled with a number of different people. A country based on diversity. A country made up of immigrants.

We are a part of the United States a country that continue to stand strong if we choose to love each other.

I have picked a side, and my side is humanity. The side that sees how important every life is. The side that still believes that we can overcome all of our inner issues and work together.

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
