I've Learned the Only Person you Can Trust is your Mom
Alexa Malloy

Being 18 years old, it’s crazy to think that you know everything, but we think it. We think that we have been through the toughest times, but according to my mom “there will always be more.” I fail to accept that my mom is always right but lately my perspective has changed and I understand where she is coming from. I do not know where I would be without her…

Throughout my life, my mom has always been by my side through thick and thin. She is the person who I can call my “Best friend” and really mean it when I say it. A mother is your forever friend and will do her best to help you succeed because it makes her happy when you do so. A mother will never lie to you or share even your deepest, darkest secrets because they simply just love listening to you. Believe me, I know what it is like to disagree with your mom, but if you stop and listen to her advice, she is always right. Your mom will NEVER be jealous of you, so listen to her over someone who you think may be. My mom is a lot older than me and uses the saying: “Alexa, I have been there and done that.” Although you do not always agree with what they say, their rules or punishments they give, but they are just building you to become a better person.

Mothers know what is best because they already have been through it all. They are older, more mature and can help you learn based off of their own mistakes. I, myself, know that I just think everyone in the world is my friend and is there for me, but sadly that is not true. Throughout life you will encounter people who will hate you (maybe even for no reason), be jealous of you, love to see you cry but then some who will love to see you laugh, and then there are those who truly love you. Now the one’s who truly love you will be there through everything, and not judge you for your decisions. They are the ones who love to see you happy and watch you succeed, even if they wish that they were you. I am not saying that everyone is perfect in the world, and it is normal for people to get jealous… But we are all guilty of it.

“If I didn’t have you as a mother, I would still want you as a best friend.”

I realized that no matter what age you are, you will still always need your mom. We never realize how lucky we are at time to have our mothers in our lives. I would be beyond lost without my mom. They helped you grow into the person you are today, taught you that you will fail but even when you do “get up and keep on going,” everything happens for a reason, people are not always who you thought they were and life is about making mistakes. I tell my mom everything and not because she is my mother but because she understands me and knows me so well.

The more I grow, the more I realize that my mom will give me the best advice. No matter if you listen to them, you will realize that you should have listened to them. They might not tell you what you “want to hear” but they are telling you “what you need to hear.” Every day I wake up and think about how lucky I am to have my mom in my life.

Mothers take it how it is. If you are moody: They do not complain. If you bawl your eyes out hysterically: They comfort you. If you need something ASAP: They are there for you…

There isn’t a big enough word to describe the love for moms and the love they have for you. Sometimes, I think we take this for granted and do not thank them enough for everything they have done for us throughout our life.

To my mom: Ever since the day I was born you have been there for me and helped me grow. I know I may have outgrown your lap, but never ever will I outgrow your heart. You have seen me at my best and have seen me at my worst but still manage to love me the same. I may not thank you enough, but I want to now. So thank you for being my shoulder to cry on, thank you for helping me when I am down, thank you for buying anything I want even though you have bills to pay, thank you for teaching me “right” and “wrong,” and most importantly thank you for being my mother because I would not want anyone else.

So the next time you are fighting with your mom or disagree on what they say, think about it and listen to them because I can assure you 99% of the time they are right.

I LOVE YOU MOMMY XO

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
