It's Time To Work Together

On Sunday, June 12th, America witnessed the nation's worst terrorist attack since 9/11 in Orlando, Florida. 49 people died, 53 were wounded, and America faced, yet again, another attack from ISIS.

Although the horrible tragedy was caused by one man alone, the recovery is only possible with our nation united together.

Through thick and thin, the United States has reflected our power through being resilient in our strive to always stay unified and work together to solve problems.

With the UK leaving the European Nations, and the United States facing extreme conflict and controversy over our upcoming presidential election, the power of together has never been deemed more important.

Nevertheless, I believe that the power of coming together can be reflected in so many other ways.

The influence collaboration has on the outcome of our lives trumps all others. While skimming over my Pinterest feed last week I came across a quote that said, "we're all working together; that's the secret". The quote struck me by surprise considering I have felt an "every man for himself" attitude from the people around me, as well as myself. Could things really be that different if we worked with one another to achieve our individual goals?

The answer is plain and simple: yes.

Regardless of how intelligent, driven, or passionate one may be, success as an individual is only attainable through one's ability to build and work alongside a team.

The power of together derives from communication, helping others, and finding ways to work alongside people besides one's self to work toward a common vision or goal.

The purpose of this article is to emphasize how important it is for us to look out and support others. As leaders, and simply human beings, we often get caught up in our own aspirations or problems to manage in our lives. What's happening to me seems to be ten times more important than what is happening to those around me, but that is where I am undoubtedly wrong.

Next time you drive through the city and notice someone begging for change outside, help them out.

Next time you notice someone sitting in the library struggling to understand the material for the upcoming unit, help them out.

Next time you are so absorbed in your own problem but notice your friend needs some advice, hear them out.

What goes around comes around, and the power of together is the only thing helping us reach our goals and beyond.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.
