It's Time To Get Involved In Politics

I know that most people aren't a fan of politics. They don't want to discuss it or get involved with it. Well that has to change. We just elected a pompous, sexist, ignorant man who can't even run a business to our highest office. We elected someone who preaches hate and has never been involved in politics. With Republicans dominating the Congress, a horribly uniform cabinet and an unqualified President, we are in jeopardy. We NEED to get involved.

Congress has already started to repeal Obamacare aka the Affordable Care Act (ACA). I'm not going to say the Affordable Care Act is perfect because it's not. It's flawed - but the Affordable Care Act was made out of a million compromises, so of course it has problems. The fundamentals of it are really important. Every person in this country needs to have health insurance. Kids should be able to be covered under their parents' health insurance until they are 26 and hopefully have a real job. People with pre-existing conditions need to be covered. I'm all for fixing the problems that came with the Affordable Care Act, but the fundamentals of it need to stay. How can Congress even considering replacing the Affordable Care Act if they don't have anything to replace it? That would leave more than 30 million americans without health insurance. That leaves CHILDREN without healthcare.

Congress is considering cutting the medicaid expansion, which allows impoverished people as well as people with disabilities to get the medical stuff they need. What's even worse is that they are considering cutting the medicaid expansion to pay for corporate tax cuts. Why are corporations treated as more important than people? That seems really backwards to me.

Congress is also considering putting more money into our defense budget. We are spending more money on defense than any country in the world. We spend so much money to defend the world when we have a lot of problems going on at home.

You might not agree with my politics or what I stand for, and that's fine. You have every right to your own opinions and beliefs. Just do the world a favor and start speaking up. Use your voice. Don't complain about what's going on politically if you aren't doing anything to change it. Talk to your congressmen. Have conversations with the people around you and raise awareness about what is going on. Get involved. Politics might not be interesting to you, but it is important. Let's start acting like it.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
