It's Time To Pray For America

We need to open our eyes and our hearts.

October 11, 2016.

Indiana Governor Mike Pence, who is the Republican vice-presidential candidate, took to the stage in Newton, Iowa and said something that every American needed and still needs to hear in the coming weeks.

"I would encourage you, if you are inclined to do as the Pence family does from time to time, to bow the head and bend the knee...it'd be a good time to pray for this country, in the next four weeks."

When I heard this, I didn't dive into it like I should have, but over the past couple of weeks, I've done some thinking about what was said.

And it truly is time to pray for America.

Regardless of your political affiliation, this is something that each and every American should take to heart.

I've grown up hearing "injustice", "lack of freedom", "there is no American dream anymore".

What happened to the land of opportunity? What happened to the land that our founding fathers build many years ago?

You can't go anywhere without hearing about the latest incident.

I turn on the TV and I don't see anything positive.

I see little children who are victims to shootings and other attacks.

I hear about the latest person to kneel during the National Anthem before a sporting event.

It is like we block out all the good in the world and throw in the bad. I grew up always hearing "block out the bad and go with the good" but yet I feel that our cultural shift is causing that view to change.

America has always been viewed as a beacon of hope and freedom.

What good are we doing ourselves by continuing going at each other's throats?

Republican, Democratic, Independent.

I don't care who you are voting for, who you like or who you hate.

WE are Americans. WE can make this country great again and WE have to come together during this time of need.

This is the first election that I get the opportunity to take part in and as an American, it is my duty to get out and vote and have a say in what goes on.

However, I ask each and every one of you before you step foot in the poll, to close your eyes and ask the Lord to help guide this nation.

No matter who is the next President of the United States, the nation is going to need guidance and there is only one individual that can do this.

The last part of Mike Pence's speech on October 11th reads:

"I encourage you to remember what's been true for thousands of years. That if his people who are called by His name will humble themselves and pray, He will hear from heaven, and He - as He's always done before - He will heal our land. One nation, under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all."

God Bless you all and God Bless the United States of America.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
