It's Time To Get Your Shit Together For Finals Week

Because that deadline or final exam ain't going anywhere.

For many of us this time of year, finals week is looming upon us. And I'm sure all of us gonna be feeling any one of the these emotions any time now:

Extreme indifference.

Hyperactive worriment.

Subtle determination.

Wanting to eat instead of work.

And exhaustion.

Especially exhaustion.

Now, as much as it sucks to feel either one or two or all of these emotions at the same time, especially as summer is coming up around the corner, there’s something really important that just about every one of us has to know. And it’s that there’s no better time than the present.

No, really. There seriously is no better time than the present. Can’t get back the time you lost surfing the web earlier today, nor can you expect having more time later today after taking a nap. But you can decide right now, exactly at this second, to get started on what you gotta do and, more importantly, get it done as soon as possible.

A deadline’s a deadline, no matter if you started a month, a week, or a day before the work is due. It’ll be there no matter what you do. So what are you waiting for exactly?

It’s true, sometimes we just feel that we don’t want to do a 10-page paper for Monday, or study for that cumulative final the day after. I get it, we all get it. But there’ll come that moment sometime soon where you’ll think “Shit, I got to really do this.” Now, you could let that happen as you have a day left before the final exam or when the essay’s due, or you could get onto it at least a few days before it and focus as soon as you possibly can. Again, that deadline’s not going anywhere.

As much as you don’t want to do it, if you care about your studies (or are planning to pay back thousands of dollars via loans for your classes one day), start on something right now. Like, the second you’re reading this. No matter how much you gotta do during the week before break, get it started right now. Because trust me, once you start it now, you're gonna feel more better about yourself than if you started the project/paper/study session a mere hours before the deadline.

And once you start and get into the vibe of things on your final assignment, it'll easier, and you're going to get it done quicker. So that on the final day before, you won’t be as struggling as you would have been, had you have started on the final day. But most important thing to remember before you get there? Don't give up.

So what are you still reading this for?

Go out and seize the day and just do it already.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

The transition into adulthood is never easy

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
