7 Things To Do When You're Ready To Give Up

Imagine a time in your life when things haven't exactly gone your way. Maybe that time is now, maybe that time is yet to come, but regardless- it happens to all of us.

The temptation to accept defeat is always there, but we all possess the ability to keep going- and here is how you can.

Vent It Out

From time to time everyone needs a good cathartic release. Whether it is seeking guidance through parents, or requesting advice from a friend, sharing and expressing emotions in times where you feel discouraged may be just the solution to getting back on the right track.

Listen to Music

Music has an astounding ability to take you to another time and place. Music allows you to be lost in your thoughts, or even brighten your spirits. My greatest inspirational moments have come from simply losing myself in a song; it is a simple remedy fit for any given personality.

Make A Plan

Seems a bit self-explanatory, but obviously when things aren’t going your way, the thing you need the most is change. Formulating a plan to help you reach your full potential may be exactly what you need. Whether it is taking baby steps with simple lists to be more organized, or changing your life entirely, making a plan is essential when you are ready to give up.

Travel

Maybe all you need is a change of scenery. Traveling allows you to take a break from the heat of your normal environment, and take some time to work on yourself- because at the end of the day that is the most important thing when it comes to self-improvement.

Write

Perhaps this works for me because I love to write, but writing and expressing emotions through words is the healthiest form of self-expression that exists. Being able to jot down all my thoughts on paper and express exactly how I feel is often exactly what I need when I am frustrated and down.

Remember That Today Is A New Day

Yes, maybe yesterday was shitty, but today is a new day. Who cares what happened yesterday? Being able to live in the moment and allow yourself to move forward in times of distress and negativity will not only make you stronger, but allow you to have an optimistic and positive attitude towards every aspect of your life.

Push Yourself

Always ask yourself: did I give it my all? If you can’t answer yes- you have work to do. Even when times are tough, the best thing to do is push, push, push. Sometimes feeling defeated is exactly what you need to grow stronger and more confident in who you are.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
