It's Time For A Change America

It's time for Americans to come together.

I'm waiting. I'm waiting for America to come together and not be divided by racism, an issue that has been around for centuries in America. I'm waiting for protestors to chant 'all lives matter' instead of just black lives matter. I'm waiting for police departments to admit there's a problem within their own department and for them to come out publicly and admit they have a problem. Police need to call out one another when a crooked cop does something wrong. Police need to hold each other accountable, at the same time we need to hold each other accountable.

It baffles me how after centuries of racism America has yet to kill racism. It's not just a black and white thing, it's a human thing. When Alton Sterling was killed, a wife lost a husband. A child lost a father. Alton's wife and son now have to move on with their lives without a husband and a father, they can't have him back ever. Philando Castile was shot in front of his girlfriend and her four year old daughter. They don't get to have him back. In Dallas, five families will get to see their loved ones one last time, when they're laying them to rest. Together that's seven families torn apart.

Instead of trying to get revenge on one another make a fucking change. It's 2016 this shit has to stop. This isn't a gun law issue, and the moment it turns into one I'm going to lose my shit. Cops need guns for their jobs. They encounter dangerous situations. People have a right to own guns, it states that in the second amendment. The Dallas snipers were two racist people aiming at revenge, by killing five random police officers who had not a damn thing to do with the two public police killings of African American men who were killed by crooked cops. Not all cops are bad, not all white people hate blacks and not all blacks hate whites.

At the end of the day we're all humans, we are internally the same. It doesn't matter that we were born with different skin colors, hair colors, hair types or body types. It doesn't matter that someone else was born different compared to yourself. It doesn't make them less of a person compared to yourself.

Lastly, hash tags are not going to make a change. #BlackLivesMatter #AllLivesMatter #BlueLivesMatter aren't going to stop a bullet. Be the change. Go love somebody and treat others with respect. Judge someone by their character, who they are as a person, not their skin. I hope y'all remember Martin Luther King Jr. and his "I Have a Dream" speech. If not it's right here -->

It's time for a change America. We've been long overdue for this change. It's time to stand by one another, together and stand up for what's right. Come together. Let's not have another innocent life taken and another family torn apart. Love one another.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
