2018 has been a year of extravagant outfits and out-of-this-world fads. However some of y'all, including myself because I had bad looks, take trends too far to the point where it does not flatter you AT ALL. So please take this article with some consideration.
People, we need to start dressing for our body shape. Because it is a fashion trend doesn't mean it's for everybody. We need to stop wearing clothing that makes us look heavier or having fewer curves than we desire to have. We need to go into our closets and toss out clothes that don't fit properly.
Our petite friends need to acknowledge that the clothes they are wearing are too oversized the point where we are drowning or be able to tailor our pants (or better yet wear heels) so it won't bunch up. The good friends that are tall need to start wearing brands that support their legs and not have them at high waters. Our good friends that want curves so bad: why not make a silhouette and create curves? The curvy friends, why not emphasize the features you love instead of the features you are insecure about?
Finding clothes that fit different body types are what influencers REFUSE to show us.
Another point I want to make and please mark my words: some of the colors we are wearing are washing us out! Some of us are warm, some are cool, some of us have olive tones, and some of us are just lucky to be neutral because it looks good in every color.
The best way to know your color palette is to go to your local makeup store. Find a person in the store that will help you find your foundation shade. When you are finding your desired foundation shade, ask what colors will look good on your skin tone, colors that will help your skin tone POP.
Now, this is where you build up your color palette. Then you can focus on buying these colors when it comes to finding clothing, accessories, and makeup.
This is important for 2019 that holds everything together: B A L A N C E. Want to wear a bright color? You wear neutrals. Want to wear tight pants. An oversized blouse or sweater does the job. Wearing a print? Everything else should be solid. Do you see where I'm going with this?
When an outfit is improperly balanced, the outfit just looks a mess. This is why when some of us incorporate fashion trends into our outfits we improperly balance them (for example, wearing a big logo all around the outfit) to the point where people get so sick of the trend and no wonder why we couldn't wear our favorites when years pass by.
Wear all the outfits you want to. But remember one thing please in 2019: know and learn how to dress so my TL doesn't look so bad.
