It's Recruitment Season

Recruitment means ...

It's Recruitment Season

It's recruitment season ladies, and you know what that means! Endless videos, worlds of praise, and lots and lots of cheesy insta posts. But what does it really mean to be part of a sisterhood? To people who have only seen portrayals of what a sorority is in movies or on TV, you have no idea what to expect. Contrary to popular depiction of huge party schools, full of nudity and insane amounts of alcohol consumption, we do a lot of good within our community, and for organizations alike. Recruitment is a time to find yourself within a group of likeminded, incredible individuals. And as I'm sure you have heard before, It's not just four years, It's a lifetime. Forever friends. #gogreek

Recruitment involves:

1. Recruitment Videos

I'm sure that the local pizza shops are really happy late July early August because all of the sorority recruitment videos that are being filmed. Almost every single video I have watched have involved some sort of pizza and the consumption of mass amounts of cheese, sauce and dough. Not gonna lie, it made me reconsider my dinner choices, and also the idea that sorority girls don't all sit around in a corner and eat tic-tacs for their daily caloric intake. And don't even get me started on all of those sparkles. Those little buggers will be stuck to these girls for forever. So thank your lucky stars they are willing to be adorable on camera at their lettered shirts sparkles expense.

2. Instagram Praise Out The Wazoo

Don't worry, there isn't an epidemic that is driving all sorority girls crazy like mad cow disease, into posting sappy (but cute) Instagram pictures. Yes they are really all obsessed with each other. Some people might think they are just really good actors, but there is an insane bond between sorority sisters that is next to impossible to break. We spend a majority of our school days and weekends together. So sorry if we post a lot especially at this time of year, we just want to spread the love.

3. Remembering Why You Went Greek

This time a year or few ago you decided to join this incredible journey that is a sorority. You spent your days with girls who love being involved in everything you do. You get each other like you have known each other since birth. You bond and you fight, but its worth it in the end. Even with the every day stress, hustle and bustle of school, you always have this support system to back you up and they will always be there for you. They love you like sorority girl loves snapchat filters, so embrace it and #gogreek.

Being involved in such an amazing group of strong, independent, bright woman has taught me to grow as both an individual and within my community. I can not thank Greek life enough for teaching me that I can be me, and people will love me for it.

Thank you, and GO GREEK!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
