So, I have begun my final year as an undergrad (wohoo!). During the summer, I spent a significant amount of time reflecting on the journey and planning for the next step. While reflecting, it dawned on me that I spent these last few years at home and attended school.
Some might be reading this and think of the idea that college is supposed to be a time of independence and working your way into the world, or something similar to this reasoning. While I agree that college is a time for these things, I am also of the opinion that this means something different to everyone and should be treated as such.
Listen: You do not need to go away for school. I repeat: You do NOT need to go away for school!
Instead, go wherever the best opportunity for you lies. Your life was paved the way it is for a reason. Realize this fact, and embrace it!
To reiterate, I stayed home for school. Why? Because I had the best opportunity going to a school that was close to home. During that time, I have also had the opportunity to obtain my driver's license, as well as maintain a steady job and purchase my first two cars. This is not including the opportunities that were made available to me by my school. In addition to these things, I experienced much personal growth as well.
Funny thing is, I initially did not and could not see myself thriving where I am at currently.
That being said, I am NOT saying that one can experience this growth by only staying home. No. I'm certain that many have experienced much while away, and have been made not only more educated in their field, but also more wise in various areas (hopefully!). If you feel that you are called to go out of state (or out of the country) for school, pursue it. If you feel that you are called to take on a certain job instead of school, pursue it.
If you feel that you are lacking in certain areas because of your path, or are feeling left behind by your peers that decided to go elsewhere worry not, for "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens"( Ecclesiastes 3:1).
You have been called on an assignment that was meant for you and you alone. Do not let outsiders talk you out of the path that was paved for you.
