In the world today, it seems like there is a lot of emphases placed on being happy and content, from what is portrayed on social media to what we see on TV. We can often find ourselves playing the comparison game and wishing we were living someone else's life based off of what we see. There is a heavy focus on being in relationships and getting the perfect grades and sometimes all of this can lead us into a bout of unhappiness and discontent.
We can overcome by stress, anger, and anxiety. We don't want to tell anyone or want anyone to know. We shrug them off with the words "I'm okay." But you know what?! It's okay to not be okay and to be unhappy, stressed, or confused. Personally, I am still learning how to not always be okay. I'm afraid to show people when I'm struggling or let them in to know when I'm going through a rough time. I'm slowly learning that it's okay to not be okay and to let it show. If you want to learn the same, here are some ways to help you be okay with not being okay.
1. Let Someone Know
Honestly, when I am having a rough day or a hard time I often find it nice to turn to a family member or best friend. They are always there for me with arms wide open. I struggle with this though, fearing they will think I am trying to make my problems their's as well. That isn't the case though. If someone truly loves you and wants to help you they will always have your back. Just remember they might need you in return.
2. Take Some Time to Be Alone
Before you decide to let someone know you are struggling, or if you don't want to tell anyone, take some of your time to spend alone. Lock yourself in your room, climb in bed, and dig deep into your feels. Let it all out and cry if you want to. God gave us the ability to cry for a reason and sometimes a good cry really helps.
3. Pray
Prayer is something that really helps me when I'm struggling. I give a good cry out to God and ask him to help me with my struggles and give me the strength to carry on. No matter what, he always has my back!
4. Reflect
The going will get tough in life and sometimes it almost seems impossible to make it through, but when you realize that it's okay to not be okay and give yourself some time to heal it makes life a little bit easier.
