Sometimes, the hardest thing you can admit to yourself is that you need to find yourself. It’s OK to admit that you’re lost; many of us get lost along the way. Whether you took a wrong turn in school, your career, a friendship or a relationship, getting lost sometimes helps us find who we truly are.
Holding onto something that weighs you down might not seem like a bad idea at the time. You think that you can overcome whatever is weighing you down, and it’s just an obstacle in your path. You begin to think a higher power is testing you. In fact, sometimes you might not even know you’re being weighed down because you don’t see that weight as a negative aspect in your life. You’re so blinded by the feeling of security, you don’t realize you’re hurting yourself.
You need to remember to take care of yourself, and put yourself first. Yes, the happiness of others around you is important -- but your emotional, mental and physical health have to be the priority. How can you expect someone to care for you if you can’t even care for yourself?
Admit that you’ve lost your way. Admitting you lost your way is the first step in finding yourself again. We all make mistakes. That’s life. Another thing about life is admitting you made a mistake, so you can fix it. Maybe you said something to someone that hurt them, and the words taste sour on your lips. Maybe that person wants nothing to do with you anymore, and you feel so lost without them that you forget which way is left and which is right. Or maybe you’re in a relationship that isn’t the right one for you -- it’ll eat you alive until you do something about it. Maybe these are the things that are causing you to feel lost, but you just need to find your compass.
I get it -- you are afraid to stand up for yourself and put yourself first, because you are so used to putting others before you. But let me tell you this: the only way to find yourself after getting lost is to find your way back to the path you wandered off of. The only way to do this is to face your demons and those who stand in front of you. You must be true to yourself, and I promise you that you won’t feel lost anymore.
Once you overcome that feeling of being lost, the world will be great again. You’ll see everything in a new light, and what was once black and white is full of color. You won’t be walking through a field of thorns, but a field full of sunflowers. Doesn’t that sound a lot better than sitting there sulking in your confusion of how you can find yourself again? Remember, “Not until we are lost do we find ourselves.” That’s the beauty of life.
