It is normal to miss campus during the summer. You spend the majority of your time away at school. The friends that you met at school have become your family, the streets around campus are the ones that you know best, and the restaurants that you don't have back home are now your favorites. Here are some of the top five things Marshall students miss:

1. Your Roommate(s)

This is the person that person that you spend most of your time with and the person who sees you at your worst. They have seen you stress over school work and come in from a long night out. They know all your secrets and bad habits. They are the person who you have late night talks with about everything under the sun and who is always up for a movie night. Your roommate(s) see you at your worst but love you regardless.

2. Your Friends

When you came to college, you were excited to make new friends. You never knew how much they would end up meaning to you. Every memory you have made and will make at school are because of your friends. They are the people who sing Cardi B while curling your hair to get ready for a night out. They are the people who take pictures with you on game days in the Joan. Your friends are the people who push you to finish your homework, to take another tequila shot, and to be careful over the summer. They are the friends who quickly turned into family.

3. The Campus

The campus is so pretty and so close to everything. Campus is full of beautiful flowers and trees. The trees are great to hammock in and relax. Our campus is in the heart of Huntington and we are close to everything. We are right beside Fat Pattys - a fan favorite. We aren't too far from Ritter Park, which is a great place to spend a pretty day.

4. The Restaurants

Huntington has a lot of different restaurants that most hometowns do not have. We have Fat Pattys, Cook Out, Herd Cafe, and Stewarts Hotdogs. Fat Pattys is a fan favorite. Their burgers put them on the map! We all love Cook Out because it's cheap ($5 for a Cook Out Tray) and because their milkshakes are so good. My favorite is the Orange Push-Up. Herd Cafe is another favorite for food and to watch Herd Sports. Stewarts Hotdogs is the best place to grab a hot dog on a warm day. You also can't forget about D.P. Dough!

5. Hang-Out Spots

You miss being able to see all of your favorite people at the same place, whether it be on or off campus. On campus, you can see everyone gathering at the Memorial Student Center Plaza and off campus you can find your friends at restaurants or at local bars.

Although the school year just ended, I know we are all ready to get back to good ole Huntington.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
