It’s okay to have a bad day. The sentence can almost baffle a crowded audience. Really? In today’s society we as human beings are allowed to have bad days? Yes, we are and don’t exactly have to hide it either.
Living in a world where everything is picture-perfect and highlighted to the perfect light, it can be hard to believe that there are those struggling. When in reality, each and every person on this planet can and will experience one or more bad days in their lifetime. So what does it mean when I say it’s okay to have a bad day? It means we don’t have to live up to this expectation of making our lives appealing 24/7, we are real and raw and in society today I feel we are often losing that aspect since everything is picture perfect.
Not to say we should dwell on negativity all the time, more so it’s okay to not be up to “par” each day and ask help if it’s needed.
Bad days are the worst they are, it’s hard to be going strong every other day of the week then just crash unexpectedly the next day. The feeling of hopelessness and despair (which I can often attain too) are felt strongly in this moment and sometimes we wonder if all the good that is happening outweighs the few bad days we encounter. Bad days however, shouldn’t be a sign of weakness as they are often portrayed, but a sign for help or extra boost of encouragement. Whether it’s a hug, or going out for ice cream here are a few things that often help me cope with bad days:
- Exercising, whether it’s going for a jog or getting a good sweat lifting some weights
- Turning on my favorite TV show, watching something that I enjoy and can attain too helps take the edge off of a bad day
- Ice cream, need I say more?
- Talking with a close friend or relative, another one that helps take the edge off of a bad day is talking to someone I trust.
- Jam sesh to a favorite song or playlist, music is for the soul and a little jam sesh here and there can definitely help let loose and take the edge off.
These are just some of many things that can help a bad day seem a little bit brighter. Like I said, bad days can often seem like the end of the world but just because you have a bad day doesn’t mean it’s a bad life. It’s okay to be vulnerable and ask for help in times of need. It’s okay to take the day hour by hour, or even by minutes. Take a step back, a deep breath and know that everyone experiences a day or two.
Not everything is as picture perfect as it seems, it’s okay to be real and raw sometimes and ask for help in times of need. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
