Why It's OK To Be Single

In today’s day and age, everyone is assumed to be in a relationship. The term “relationship goals” is throw around like confetti and every time people of opposite genders hang out, people normally ask if they’re dating. Although relationships can be very beneficial, it’s important to remember that being in a relationship is not the only thing that can make you happy. I get it, sometimes it can be hard not to feel left out if you’re single when you have a lot of friends in relationships , but being single can be emotionally stimulating and cleansing. Instead of being upset, it’s important to use this time to self- reflect. Relationships shouldn’t be forced and they’ll come when you least expect it, but until that time comes, we should celebrate all the good that comes with being single.

1. If your other relationships are stable and healthy, being single shouldn’t be a big deal

Your friends are supposed to make you laugh and feel loved 24/7. If you find yourself bored and wishing you were spending time with a significant other while hanging out with friends, you should probably look to expand your friend circle. With that said, friends can fill the void of not having a partner. When the time is right, you will meet someone.

2. You can work on and focus on yourself:

Before jumping into a relationship, it’s important to focus on yourself and get to know yourself better. Before loving someone else, you have to learn to be independent and love yourself first. Relying on someone else for happiness will only lead to disappointment, and low self- esteem/ low confidence will lead to issues in a relationship that nobody wants.

3. You have more opportunity to treat yourself and other important people in your life:

See a pair of shoes you love? Go ahead and buy them because it’s not like you have to worry about dropping $200 on a birthday gift for your boyfriend/ girlfriend.

4. You have all the freedom to do whatever you want

Self- explanatory.

5. Lastly, you don’t have to deal with the unnecessary drama that can come with some relationships.

You won’t have to worry about constantly warning your boyfriend about that girl who’s always all over him.

(For Girls Who Are Interested In Greek Life)

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.
