Signs That You're A Future Teacher

There are many things that future teachers do that may or may not go unnoticed.

Signs That You're A Future Teacher

Summer break was great, but as it started to wind down it seemed like I was constantly being asked these types of questions."What year are you again? What school are you at?" Are some of the more common questions, but one that seems to be coming up more and more is, "You're going into teaching? Why on earth would you do that?" It's frustrating to constantly have your career choice being questioned. I know things aren't the greatest right now for teachers, I get that, but no matter what condition the educational system is in right now, there is always going to be a need for teachers. I feel passionate about teaching children new things and I really want to make a difference in their lives. I want to bring smiles to their faces, knowledge in their minds, and to truly care for them and have them care for one another. So please, if all you are going to do when you talk to me is put down my passion, then don't even bother. I'm not normally one to be serious and most people will tell you that I am a pretty laid back guy, but I have just had enough of it. Now that that is out of the way, I would like to address things that people will constantly see future teachers doing while they are still students in college.

1. Building a massive archive of children's books.

That's right. We definitely hit up those garage sales that are practically giving children's books away. 25 cents for two books? Take my money! We don't know what grade we will be teaching yet, so the more books you have the better, right?

2. Pinterest. Pinterest. And More Pinterest.

You thought we would have run out of room to pin stuff on our wall, but think again. Lesson plans, room decorations, crafts, games, snacks, etc. You name it and we've probably pinned it. There are so many awesome ideas that we have in mind for our future classrooms, so we just pin everything and will probably end up coming back to it later.

3. Their Closet Is Filled With Teacher Clothes.

Your friends have probably mentioned at least once or twice that you dress like a teacher already and you take that as a compliment. Your closet is filled with stuff for future dress up days as well as everyday teacher attire. You enjoy building your collection at thrift stores and other places of that nature because let's be honest, you aren't going to be a millionaire.

4. Sales On School Supplies Get Them Pumped.

Enough said on this one.

5. Coloring Is Their Way Of Relaxing.

After a long day of classes and homework you like to calm down in the evenings by coloring. It doesn't matter what you color just as long as you are doing it. You've probably broken numerous amounts of crayons after frustrating days and you are coloring really hard, but don't worry because it happens to all of us.

6. They Look After Their Roommates.

You feel like you are always checking up on your roommates and making sure they are staying on top of things: homework, laundry, cleaning their room, etc. You try your best to stay out of their business, but you just can't help yourself. You want to make sure they are staying out of trouble and coming to you if they need anything.

7. They Try To Inspire Others.

Any chance that you get, you try to inspire those around you. You want to see the people around you reach their full potential because you know that they have it in them. This is what makes you happy and this is why you will succeed as a teacher in the future. You know what you want to do and you know that you can make the world a better place by helping young people.

You are a future teacher and you can't wait to see what the future holds for you after college. Don't let anyone bring you down with their words and keep on bringing light to the world. It's not going to be an easy task, but when was something ever worth doing easy?

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

1. People assume you are mad all of the time.

2. Ten out of ten times you will give off an intimidating impression to others.

3. People do not acknowledge your feelings because you "do not have any."

4. Constantly being exhausted from trying to smile and not look like a witch.

5. And on the rare occasion your facial expressions show how happy you are, your friends think you are going crazy.

6. Each of your friends has said "I thought you were so mean when I first met you" at some point.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.

10. In the end you always look like you are judging people, when in reality people are ALWAYS judging you.
