Don't you all just love family gatherings?
With holidays comes family time, and with family time comes lots of emotions including love, joy, happiness, stress, anger, annoyance, and laughter! Family is so important to me and I know what it is like to go without some family members. I love being with my family and getting together. The time is precious and full of love and joy. However, for each family out there I know there are those special events that occur at each family gathering. Whether it is your mom burning the stuffing, Aunt Suzy being 3 hours early with Uncle Joey being 3 hours late, you cousin Sally always talks to the dog the entire day, and your siblings and you never get away without getting asked the dreaded questions.
This year, Twitter has seen a hashtag blow up with responses from every type of family gatherings. The hashtag, #ItsNotAFamilyGatheringUntil has given a chance to share those unique, inevitable moments with everyone. Whether you can relate, laugh, or feel a little more normal when you look at your family, these responses have given me a great laugh and reflection time. Below I have put together some of my favorites.
#ItsNotAFamilyGatheringUntil I'm introduced to a family member I didn't even know exsisted
#ItsNotAFamilyGatheringUntil I get asked why I am not married with children
#ItsNotAFamilyGatheringUntil Your mom starts telling everybody your business that she promised she wouldn't tell anyone about
#ItsNotAFamilyGatheringUntil The person who commented on your weight gain offers you a second piece of pie
#ItsNotAFamilyGatheringUntil Someone in the kitchen is whispering about someone in the dining room
#ItsNotAFamilyGatheringUntil Someone asks if I payed extra for the holes in my jeans
#ItsNotAFamilyGatheringUntil Someone calls me by my sisters name
#ItsNotAFamilyGatheringUntil The family is all there sharing love, joy, and laughter.
#ItsNotAFamilyGatheringUntil Family sits down to really think about the things they are thankful for in their lives in the past, present, and future.
And lastly,
#ItsNotAFamilyGatheringUntil The family members feel embarrassed, offended, and all in all loved.
So now I ask, what has to happen for it to be a family gathering for you this year? What makes your family special and unique. Be the best family member you can be this season and share the love!
Happy Thanksgiving y'all
