This is a meme I found within the first 2 seconds of a Google search about Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
Sad, isn't it? That this election has come down to stupid internet memes and petty jokes about our future President of the United States.
Hi, my name is Abby and for the first time in my life, I can vote in an election. And although this is a big moment for me and I'm excited for the chance to be legally involved in the American democratic system, it's hard not to feel a little disappointed by this year's election.
I'm disappointed because I want to be excited about voting. I want to get fired up about a candidate and feel confident sending in my absentee ballot.
I'm disappointed because of the people who say "why are you voting? That's a waste" to me.
I'm disappointed for the people who feel that they are just "choosing between the lesser of two evils".
I'm disappointed that our election has turned into a series of memes.
I'm disappointed because of the pessimistic posts and tweets about the debates.
All that being said, I still voted.
I still voted, even though there are memes on the internet comparing Donald Trump's hair to an ear of corn.
I still voted, even if I felt like I had to chose the lesser of two evils.
I still voted, even though the morality of the two front runners can be called into question.
I still voted, even if people are saying it doesn't matter.
I still voted, even though I am bombarded by annoying and ignorant social media posts every. single. day.
I'm disappointed, but I still voted.
Because I am a privileged American citizen who has been given the right to vote in a democracy, and I do not take that lightly. I voted because there are still countries in the world who do not get that right.
It's okay to feel disappointed. Just don't forget to vote.
