This past week, since the Billy Bush and Donald Trump video was released, voters have been up in arms about comments Trump made in the video.
On Oct. 7, a video from 2005 was released to the public that included an interview between Trump and Bush about a celebrity they were about to meet. Trump is quoted saying, “you know, I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.”
Once this video was released and people heard the [horrible] things Trump had said, they immediately started calling it sexual assault. My question to the public is did you see or hear the rest of the video? Everything Trump was saying Bush was adding to, and agreeing with, but because Bush is not running for President, the media is keeping his part of this “scandal” on the down low.
If you google Billy Bush, there are articles upon articles discussing the fact that NBC is talking about firing Bush. But no one cares that Bush said and did similar things to Trump because he is not running for office. No one would care if Trump were not running for political office.
The New York Times published a transcript of the video outlining the whole conversation. Yes, they both knew they were on camera, and probably shouldn’t have said these things on camera, but you can’t tell me that if you walked onto a college campus, into a high school, or a bar that these same words wouldn’t be spoken. The difference is that the words came out of presidential candidate Trumps mouth.
Let me put this into millennial terms. Say Kanye was running for President. Kanye has said these words, and people just laugh and say something along the lines of “oh that’s just Kanye.” What is the difference? He’s a celebrity who is a role model to many young kids and Trump is a celebrity who is running to be in charge of this country.
There have already been hashtags going around supporting Kanye for President in 2020. The sad thing is Kanye would receive more support and votes from millennials because he is one, and more people look up to him. Kanye has had his fair share of scandals himself, but that won’t matter to those voting for him because that’s just him. Trump is seen as a laughing stock to most, and the majority of people put the image of him with “The Apprentice” and the famous line of “You’re Fired.”
Look at the two options carefully. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Clinton has been in politics for over 40 years. She knows how to fake a smile, a laugh, hide behind a mask. She even stated earlier last week that she has public views and personal views and they both differ from one another (by the way, did you see that in any headlining news stories?). We have already had one Clinton in office. He was impeached, but not removed from office, had a multitude of sex scandals, and has been accused of rape and sexual abuse. Yet again, Trump gets reamed out for a line that he said in a video before actually meeting this actress.
The number of times I have heard girls and boys alike at my school say the words “oh, I would totally ‘do’ him/her” as an attractive guy or girl walks past is too many to count and that is the nicest way they put it. The vulgar language that Trump is getting reamed out about is from 11 years ago and is heard and spoken daily by hundreds of people. People including Trump describe it as being just locker room talk.
Yes, it makes sense that people don’t want someone who is going to be saying or thinking that on a regular basis, but he apologized for what he said. He has a son who is ten years old, two daughters, and two older sons. He not only has to be a role model for this country, but for them too. Trump wants to raise his 10-year-old and his grandchildren to live in the same world that he raised his older children. Safe, and prosperous.
Trump is not a politician, but he is a man who knows he has the power and ability to “Make America Great Again.” There are numerous “nobody’s” in this world who want to do the same thing he is doing, but are unable to because they don’t have the money to run a campaign nor do they have followers to support them. Trump is using his power to stick up for the little guy, and is doing a great job so far.
He faces a family of murderers in this campaign and the media only covers his mistakes. This world is not equal, the media is not equal, the world is not perfect, and it never will be but it can be better if significant changes are made. Trump has a lot of power, but at the same time he doesn’t have any power. People look to him and see a famous celebrity with no political experience who is making a fool out of himself.
Trump has more to lose in this election than Clinton ever will. He has to keep his name clean for his companies and family. Trump has been fighting an uphill battle since he announced his candidacy. Clinton on the other hand has the media spoon feeding the public for her. Clinton went 263 days without holding a press conference while campaigning for the presidency. How does a presidential candidate not hold a press conference for 263 days?
Neither of the current candidates have an impeccable record and they both have character flaws. That’s where the topic of issues comes into play. We need to put aside the person and their misgivings, and focus on what each candidate says they are going to do for our country. As a citizen of the United States, our job is to support the candidate that will protect our country and its citizens as well as help the country to prosper.
