It's Encouragement Time

Summer break is so close I can smell it.

I have an announcement… There is hope for spring semester! Yes, when I walk around my college campus there is not a single person I pass who looks alive but do not worry. The weather is warming and the classes are dwindling. We have less than three weeks left of college! For a college junior this seems surreal because my next stop is senior status. The only thing standing between us and summer break are three weeks and exams. Here are some quality tips to make it through the rest of this semester.

1. It Will Probably Be Fine

Do you like my sense of encouragement? I mean, I can’t tell you that in three weeks you will have turned that C into an A+, but I can tell you that you can pass the class! Stop stressing about things that you have no control over now. There is a very small amount of days left to try to change your grades drastically. With that being said, just continue to go to class, study, do your homework, and hope for the best. You’ll be fine, probably!

2. Make A To-Do List

I am guilty of making multiple to-do lists with the same criteria on it just so I can cross off more things. There is something so invigorating about checking something off your list. Yeah, all you might have done was print a paper or pick up your mail, but you did it! So make a to-do list and feel incredibly powerful when you accomplish even the small things you need to do.

3. Your Friends Are Here For You

No matter how you are feeling these last three weeks, you can always count on your friends. Whether it is a coffee date full of class complaining and iced sugary madness or a breath of fresh air in hammocks, it will be worth it!

4. Self Care Is Number On

I know life is tough and college life is tougher, but I know you can do it! Don’t get so caught up in classes and homework and extracurriculars that you find yourself in a bad mental health spot. Mental health is more important than doing well in college because without it, you won’t succeed for long. Take breaks for yourself, sleep enough, and stay healthy. Summer is right around the corner, you got this!

6. Dogs Still Exist

No matter what, a dog will still be happy when they pass you on the street. If that isn’t much motivation then I’m not sure what will help. Dogs exist and they love you. You can make it through anything. A bonus is thinking about your pets at home. They definitely want you to succeed and will be so excited when you finally come home for summer break. Do it for the doggies!

7. You Aren’t Struggling Alone

Lastly, just a reminder… You aren’t struggling through this alone! Every college student at every college across the nation is feeling the same way. We can pull through and be successful. Don’t ever think you are alone because college is hard for everyone. Now let’s ace our exams and start soaking up the sun!

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
