According to the Internet, the Christmas season started on Tuesday, November 1. A few pictures summed up its conclusion.
Or this one.
Or this one.
Every year, Christmas seems to be coming earlier and earlier. Unfortunately, there is still no known cure for this dilemma. Thanksgiving just keeps getting pushed to the side, and disregarded as an in-between holiday. The main focus is on Christmas, the commercial holiday. Poor Thanksgiving is just left in the dust.
Why? All three of the Hallothanksmas holidays are extremely commercialized. For Halloween, it's candy and costumes galore. For Thanksgiving, you better stock up on enough food to feed a small family for two weeks. And, for Christmas, the lists just keep getting bigger, better, and much more expensive. You need presents, a tree, a Thanksgiving amount of food, cookies galore, and of course, more than zealous decorations. It's no wonder people like to start stocking up early.
But is it ever too early to start preparing for the ongoing Hallothanksmas season? I believe it is.
Each holiday involved has a respective amount of time between the next. Halloween always falls on October 31; Thanksgiving, the third Thursday in November; and Christmas, on December 25. Therefore, each of these holidays has about a month before the next. In my opinion, that is a more than reasonable time frame to celebrate the holidays in style.
Also, what's the rush? The holidays are supposed to be a special time of the year spent with family and close friends. The idea of gift-giving and gathering for dinner is supposed to symbolize the appreciation your family has for one another. Thanksgiving is for giving thanks and being thankful, while Christmas is the holiday of giving. Why is there so much greed?
Of course, I completely understand the excitement. Christmas is by far, my favorite holiday. I love the spirit and all the excitement that is aroused just by a particular time of the year. I love wrapping presents and searching for the perfect Christmas tree. However, my Christmas season does not start until midnight of Thanksgiving, also known as Black Friday. I do not play any Christmas music or wear any ugly Christmas sweaters until it is officially the season. I do not rush into the Hallothanksmas season, and neither should you.
So, if you have already fired up a Christmas playlist and started wearing all of your Christmas attire, I would urge you to hang up your stockings for a few more weeks. Thanksgiving comes first. The Hallothanksmas season includes three holidays in a particular order: Halloween, then Thanksgiving, and then Christmas. Let's keep it that way.
