On January 21, 2017 women all over the nation took a stand for women's rights by participating in protests. With our reproductive, LGBTQ, health, and work wages at risk, we decided we needed to make our voice louder. Women are fed up with being underestimated. We don't want to take 5 steps back in history. We don't want to hear our President believe he and other men can grab our body parts simply because he is rich and famous. So why is it when we do something about these problems, we're mocked for it?
There has been tons of controversy over the women's rights marches this week, coming from both men AND women. It's a shame that people actually believe there's no point to a nonviolent protest. Not only are our voices heard, but we are united through a common bond to protect our human rights. Why would we sit down and not say/do anything about that?
It truly saddens me that so many people believe their voice does not matter in society when the only thing that matters in our society is US. We mold the standards, elect the officials, and make the changes. Therefore, us staying silent shows that we don't care. And we need to care.
I commend every single woman that actively speaks in support for this issue or participated in the marches. This issue goes hand in hand with the Black Lives Matter movement. Every individual's rights and life is just important as the next person's. We need to speak up now more than ever because it's better to stand up than sit down.
