The sweet smell of Christmas time sparks the spirit in everyone. The smells that trigger every memory you've ever made during the holidays. It's seemingly inevitable to smell the peppermint, pine, and wood in the fireplace and not think of Christmas rapidly approaching. All of the lights, decorations, and festivities are just as important to the holiday, but the smells are what can turn a day in October when you're making wassail into December 25th just by the smell of the air. Christmas just isn't Christmas without the essence of:
1. Peppermint - Curved Candy canes to peppermint bark.
2. Cinnamon - Placed gently in your hot chocolate or mixed with orange zest and cloves.
3. Cold crisp air/snow - We all dream of a white Christmas with Jack Frost nipping on our noses. It's the blistering cold that freezes our nose, but the smell of the crisp wintery air is like no other can describe.
4. Cookies baking in the oven - Chocolate chip, sugar, and gingerbread either being made with your younger siblings for Santa's arrival or for yourself, but we can all agree that there's no better smell than warm cookies baking in the oven, filling your house with the sweet aroma.
5. Pine - From the Christmas tree you just cut down or scented pine cones you just bought and picked-up from Target.
6. Creamy Eggnog - A nutmeggy custard scent either drives some people away or makes them come running for more. Whatever your preference it still can't be misinterpreted other than a Christmas specialty.
7. Cozy Fireplace - The cracking and popping of the burning wood equally match the smell it gives off. Filling the room with the smell of Oak or Cherry wood gives off the smell similar to potpourri, but better.
8. Chocolate - Fudge, hot chocolate, and Hershey stocking stuffers make great for anytime of the year. Let's be honest, it really doesn't matter if it's Christmas or not to indulge yourself with chocolates.
9. Antique Christmas Ornaments - Just pulled down from the attic, brought in the the garage, or carried up from the basement, the unique smell of old ornaments that have been in the family for years brings back all of the fond memories you've made while decorating the tree.
10. Warm Vanilla Sugar Candles - From Bath and Body to the countertops of every room, warm vanilla can fill the air at anytime, but just like anything else, it's only best near Christmas time.
11. Honey Ham - Waking up on Christmas morning to the smell of a sweet ham glazing over in the oven does no justice when only put into words.
12. Fresh roll of wrapping paper - A smell that cannot be distinguished easily. Similar to a new book or a fresh pack of paper but not exactly accurate and yet you can't exactly pin point if it's the smell of opening a new roll of wrapping paper or the present you can't wait to give.
