Why Pre-Finals Week Is Worse Than Finals

And you thought finals were hard.

Why Pre-Finals Week Is Worse Than Finals
Bailey Albert

It's here- the week before finals week.

Pre-week to finals week is 100x worse than actual finals week because you kinda feel like you're in Finding Nemo and you are Norman and your finals are Bruce.

Try not to panic...

Because pre-finals week means you have two weeks left, and then it's summer where you can relax or at least get a good night's rest.

But until then, you have to suffer through the week before finals week.

For those of you that are freshman, have had an easy college career or are actually taking college seriously for once, I have laid out what pre-finals week will most likely be like.

Monday:

It's the start of the week, you're feeling good. You'll probably lay out the entirety of your study plans and make sure you stick to them to a T.

Tuesday:

You already feel behind because you thought you penciled in enough time to eat dinner with Suzy, get to the gym for a light workout, and study for three classes at the same time, but you won't fret because you know you can simply get on track again.

Wednesday:

You haven't slept for more than three hours a night because your professor threw an assignment at you that's due the day of your final. Oh, and you're most likely using the heck out of your baseball caps and dry shampoo because let's face it, you haven't had time to properly shower.

Thursday:

Holy crap. How did it become Thursday already?! You don't know- but you do know that Class A and C finals have to get more study time than Class B, D and E finals because Class A and C finals are harder even though Class B, D and E finals are first.

Friday:

Going out? Nope. You don't have time, you want to relax, but it's just too much risk that if you do you will lose all that precious study time, or you could maybe sleep...

Saturday:

Wow you're hungover. Your friends convinced you to go out to relieve some stress because you were starting to find some gray hairs, but now all you want to do is eat a burger, watch Netflix/nap, and not do anything for the day. Somehow, though, you'll find motivation to get to the library.

Sunday:

This is it. And this day can go either way- you will either pull an all-nighter and study until your brain is full.

Or you'll accept the fact that you just went through Hell Week, and there is nothing more you can do about it.

Best of luck to all of you that are about to go through pre-finals week, I'll be praying for you, and congratulations to all the graduating seniors- you made it!

A Few Thoughts Every College Freshman Has

The transition into adulthood is never easy

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

College without friends is like peanut butter without jelly.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
