Conquering The Battle Within

How do you encounter problems that are stressful or weigh on your life, emotionally?

Conquering The Battle Within
Dr. Holly Clemens

"Could things be the way they are because you are the way you are?"

This famous quote by famous author Cindy Trimm speaks milestones. This theory really applies to each and every one of our lives. The question is which way does it apply to yours? Do you have a life full of chaos and discord? Does your life thrive on horrible and depressing events? Is your life full of happiness and peace, on the other hand? Does it seem like everywhere you go, you have a good time, and does it seem as if everything in your life is almost perfect? Are you the person that exudes good energy and people feel that your are a joy to be around overall? Now step back and take and ask yourself which one of these two statements resembles your life.

All in all, bad things happen to us all. The main question that needs to be answered is how are you going to handle these bad scenarios? The general definition of mind over matter is "the use of willpower to overcome physical problems." It is best for you to have an optimistic viewpoint about life. If you expect good things to happen, and having the mindset that things WILL get better and not focusing on the negatives then surely it will manifest. We are all going to have bad times as already stated, but the next time focus not on what happened, but why it happened.

Could you not have the amount of money desired, because of your spending habits? Could your relationship with your girlfriend or boyfriend have ended, because of lack of communication? Are you working out and trying to lose weight, yet you are not getting any results because you are still eating at fast food restaurants? We have to take accountability for our actions and go from there. Sometimes in life things can just happen for no reason, leaving you speechless. Again, as already stated, do not look at what happened, look at why it happened. Sometimes crisis situations happen to show us how to be appreciative of the things we already have. I think we all can relate to the famous quote "what is taken for granted will eventually be taken away."

Other times, crisis situations happen to us so that we can grow spiritually, emotionally, psychically, psychologically, and even mentally. You cannot keep the same mindsets, or habits forever. As long as you are alive and breathing, there is always room for growth and changes to be made -- especially for us in college.

This is the point in our lives were some of the craziest situations seem to happen. This is were we start to figure out who we are and what we like. In the end, if and when these situations happen that frustrate us remember to look at all of the positive things in our lives versus the few things that went wrong, or didn't work out. We all have something and someone to be thankful for. No matter what age, if you change your mind, you change your life! Everything is a bout perspective and how you view things. Don't always think that the way you view things is right always be open to different views and theories.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
