"My Lord, who am I
That I may say,
"I know you, I love you"
And You feel the same way?
My Lord, who am I
That when You see me,
You see perfection
Rather than a sinful disgrace.
My Lord, who am I
That You would split the sea,
Send Your Son to die,
All to reach me.
My Lord, who am I
That You would allow me to see,
It is all because of Who You Are,
Rather than me."
Many of the excuses people use for not accepting or living for Christ involve who they are; people think they're "too broken," or "too sinful." But none of that should be a cause in you avoiding a relationship with Christ; instead, that is not only avoiding Christ, but satisfying the Enemy's wishes.
These thoughts are one of Satan's most powerful weapons against God's people. Satan works to convince humans that they will never be enough for God, and that there is no possible way that a perfect God could desire to know our sinful beings on a personal level.
But that couldn't be further from the truth.
Our relationship with God has nothing to do with who we are, but everything to do with Who God is. God is the Creator, the One who knew us before he ever formed us. Before we even lived our lives, God knew we would fail Him; so, He gave up His only Son to be crucified and to war with death so that our sin may be made clean. To put it simply, God knew our mistakes before we even made them; He knew our brokenness before we were ever broken. Yet, from the day we were born, He has reached down from Heaven to grab our hands and pull us into a warm embrace in a relationship with Him.
God has seen every part of us: both the worst and the best. He knows us better than we even know ourselves, and He wants to have a personal relationship with us. He wants us to spend every day with Him by our side, guiding us through this broken world until the day we reach Heaven. Why? It most definitely doesn't have anything to do with who we are- we are a broken, sinful nation. It is all because of who He is: a loving Father.
Because He is this loving Father, He sees the good in us, even when we make mistakes. He sent His Son even to die and wage war with death so we may not only have our sins washed clean, but also so we may spend eternity with Him in Heaven.
Now, that's not to mean we should down ourselves because we are "filthy sinners of the earth." Christ's blood has washed us clean; who we used to be has died, and a new person has been born. However, our salvation and ability to have a relationship with Christ is not because of us or anything we have done, but because of who God is and what He has done.
Therefore, we cannot use excuses of being "too" fill-in-the-blank because as stated earlier, our salvation was never because of us. The Father longs to know His children and showers them with an unconditional love. The mistakes you've made and the person you've been will never change that.
You're never too broken. You're never too sinful. But, you are loved by a good, good Father, and that will never change.
