To all of the Harry girls out there: this is our time.
Harry Styles finally decided to go solo and and release his own album, leading him to go on tour in the next few months. Of course, when we all heard this exciting news, we marked down the date in our calendars to get tickets on pre-sale, and figure out the closest location to our respective schools in which we could see him in concert.
I may sound slightly bias here, but it was inevitable that this time would come.
Not gonna lie, about half of my time in high school revolved around my obsession for One Direction. I was first introduced to them at the end of middle school, when they had just been recognized by young girls in the U.S. At first, I didn’t really understand the hype for a British/Irish boyband, considering I had never been one to obsess over any singer or group.
I decided to look into the guys, though, and see why everyone was referring to themselves as “Directioners” or claimed one of the guys as their own.
Well, after a few videos of performances and video diaries, my liking of One Direction emerged. I had conformed to the life of a “Directioner.”
After some time, I could see why girls would called themselves a “Harry girl,” or a “Niall girl,” etc. because they found something in each guy that they liked the best. Whether it was the way they looked, how they acted during a performance, or their own individual voice in a song, there were numerous reasons to like one guy more than the others.
Of course, I was that “basic” teenage girl and liked to refer to myself as a “Harry girl.” I saved tons of pictures of him on my phone, made his picture my background on any device that I had, and kept pictures of just him from every teen magazine to hang on my wall.
I sometimes even found myself neglecting the fact that there were four other members in the band because I was so intrigued by Harry Styles.
It was no secret that Harry was the most attractive member of One Direction. You might have favored one of the other guys more than Harry, but everyone can admit they have had signs of being a “Harry girl” in them at some point.
We all knew that he sang a majority of the songs, was asked the most questions in interviews. It seemed to be the focal point of all group photoshoots and even though we hated to think about it, we knew that if the band ever broke up, he’d be the one to definitely go solo and release his own music.
Well, that time for his own music is now. When I did hear about Harry releasing his own music, I became nostalgic of my love for him and One Direction from high school.
I told myself I wouldn’t obsess now as much as I did then, but how could I not have been looking forward to new music? So, thank you Harry Styles for bringing the inner fangirl out in all of us “Harry girls” with the recent dropping of your new album.
We’re all going to drop loads of money on you yet again because it’ll only be worth it.
