When talks of a "Gilmore Girls" revival were revealed Monday, my inner middle schooler freaked out a little...okay, maybe I freaked out a lot, and I couldn't wait to see more of Rory and Lorelei and Stars Hollow and well, everything Gilmore Girls.
Like many of the show’s younger fans, I never saw any of the episodes when they aired, but I watched the reruns on ABC Family after school almost every day. I was mesmerized by how funny and real the characters were, and Rory Gilmore will always be my role model. Who doesn't want to be well-read, witty, and independent?
As the news sank in that there was a possibility of a new episode though, my initial excitement turned into a little bit of worry. What if they are awful?
When I saw the finale, I was disappointed (who wasn’t?), but over the past few years I’ve accepted that that was the only ending I was going to get. It’s always been one of those shows that I would love to see another ending for, but is there any way that these new episodes can match up to the originals? So many years have passed since the series ended. So many years that I spent accepting that Rory and Logan would never get married and have an avocado tree in their backyard, and we would never see Luke and Lorelei's wedding. I accepted that Rory would go and be the independent journalist she was destined to be. Now I have to start all over again, accepting another ending.
On the bright side, it could be the final, emotional ending we’ve all been waiting for for the past eight years. The rumors are that there would be four more episodes, each lasting an hour and a half. That means six hours of binge watching. Six hours leading up to the ending we were hoping for. An ending that would leave us all happy and probably in tears.
According to reports, creator Amy Sherman-Palladino would be returning if these episodes do happen. Since she wasn't a part of the final season, I hope that her presence brings back her voice and vision for the show. Maybe she could even make a script equal to what the show was when it first premiered.
I mean, we’re all hoping that the new episodes can capture this kind of magic. Like the magic of snow in Stars Hollow.
And have great lines like this...
And of course the new episodes would have plenty of coffee.
There's no way the episodes could be a flop, because an episode of "Gilmore Girls" could never be bad. Right?
I’m sure I'll be watching every one of those four new episodes of "Gilmore Girls" (probably over and over again) no matter how good or bad they are.
