In today's age of social media and ever expanding knowledge, it is becoming increasingly imperative for media outlets to always be on the top of their game. People need to be well informed on the happenings in the world around them so that they are not ignorant to the events outside of themselves and their space in life. This is, however, difficult do with the incredible bias in almost every news and current event outlet in the mainstream media today.
Major news organizations such as Fox News and MSNBC are some of the most well known news organizations in the United States and relay the majority of news to the everyday citizen who cares enough to watch their broadcasts. This would be perfectly fine if these two networks were not notoriously known for going out of their way to pander to conservative and liberal audiences, respectively, all for the sake of keeping their ratings as high as they possibly can. They will get the news across to the masses in a way that feeds them the bias that they decide fits them the best. This is a problem as many Americans only have the time and/or patience to watch the news on one channel. This means that they are not only presented with the story in a biased way, but also do not even get to hear both sides of a story before they form an opinion about the topics.
Aside from swaying the public to have a certain bias because of what news network they watch, this can also obstruct the facts in a way that support their bias. Fox News is probably the best known for messing up stories due to the powerful conservative bias they put on their newscasts, but MSNBC is guilty of factual inaccuracies, as well, due to liberal bias. This can cause news watchers to retain inaccurate information from these newscasts in a way that makes them look ignorant and uneducated in conversations on news topics with their peers. This ignorance is causing Americans to look stupid to people around the world to the point where it is embarrassing to be known as an American in other parts of the world. ( Disclaimer: Not saying I am ashamed to be an American, just that our ignorance precedes us as a society.)
These inaccuracies are not only used by the big news television organizations, but also smaller news websites. In readings from the Conservative Tribune, it is apparent that the bias that they put forth is used to show a strong conservative view, which, in many cases, can cause the actual problems that a particular news story brings to light to be overshadowed due to the twist that the writers put on the story. I am not saying that this is due to the conservative views of the author, but in fact the bias in the writings. Biases in the news can turn the focal point of a story from racial hate to discrimination against Christians, or vice versa. And with these extremely biased websites being well read on social media outlets such as Facebook, it causes the news to be skewed information while being relayed to the general public.
Biased media is the downfall of society. It causes factual inaccuracies in the stories that these organizations relay. These can cause people to not form their own beliefs but instead be mindless in bias of whatever channel they watch or article they read. Overall, the best solution is to discontinue hard-biased media and begin to incorporate strict facts and news stories. This way the public can hear accurate stories that allow them to form their own opinions while only requiring them to watch/ read from one place.
