Yet Another Issue With The Stanford Rapist Situation
Santa Clara County Sheriff Department

In case you haven't heard, a judge sentenced rapist Brock Allen Turner to six months in prison because a longer sentence would have "a severe impact" on him, and "he doesn't seem like he will be a danger to others." People are angry at Judge Aaron Persky's decision, and rightfully so. Turner willfully assaulted an unconscious woman behind a dumpster at a party, and, in my humble opinion, he deserves to rot in jail for the rest of his life. So, naturally, people are outraged, which is expected. However, as I was learning about the incident on Facebook, I read through some of the comments on posts related to the sentencing, and I came across quite a few people with one similar opinion, and I placed them into a neat little collage:

Now, these users' comments are just a few among the myriad of individuals calling for the rape of Turner himself. There is one problem with this declaration, but allow me to clarify first, please.

I do not care what happens to Brock Allen Turner when he serves his much-too-short sentence in jail. Honestly, I do not care what happens to him for the rest of his life. He is a rapist. He is not an ex-aspiring Olympic swimming star. He is not a student. He is not even human now. He is rapist scum. I am just as outraged as everyone else. However, it is an improper reaction to say that he should be raped.

I agree that he should be locked up for life.

I agree that he is a waste of space.

I agree that what he did was evil, that he is evil, and that the judge is a rape sympathizer.

But I do not wish for him to be raped.

When you say you want him to be raped, you are perpetuating rape culture by saying that rape is something that a person deserves and brings upon themselves. You are perpetuating rape culture by saying that rape is okay in a certain situation. Rape is never okay. By saying that you wish he would get raped, you are saying that, even just for this one situation, rape is fine. You are justifying Turner's actions all over again, and that is not okay.

Now, say it with me:

Rape is NEVER okay.

I hope that Turner is never able to go about his normal life again. I hope that Turner has an unsuccessful life. And yes, maybe the darker side of me does hope that a few worse things than that happen to him. But do I hope that he gets raped? No. Because it is never okay to wish for the unlawful and unwarranted entering of another person's body. That's a lesson that Turner will likely never learn.

Rape is never deserved.

Rape is never okay.

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.

Oh college, we can’t live with you, but we can’t live without you. It’s a love/hate relationship, really. College is an experience that no one can ever prepare you for, and maybe that’s a good thing. You never really expect any of the things that college encompasses until you are there. College is fun, but don’t have too much fun. C’s get degrees, but they don’t get you into graduate school.

Blair Waldorf

The "Gossip Girl" series may be over, but Blair Waldorf's iconic character lives in our hearts forever. Blair was the queen of the Upper East Side, and a character you either loved or hated. She taught us everything we needed to know about life, love and of course, how to score a Chuck Bass. So the next time you feel a bit lost and are in need of guidance, look no further than to the Queen B herself.

As I spend my Sunday avoiding my homework and other adult responsibilities, I realized that I've watched this series over and over about a million times. Sadly, there isn't a Blair quote I don't know, so I came up with a list of a few favorites. You know you love her...xoxo

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.
