Is Your Life Really Worth Living?

Take time to consider what you are doing to help our world.

Have you ever wondered, is your life really worth living? It is a question worth thinking about. Albert Einstein said that, “Life is not worth living unless it is lived for someone else.” This quote changed my entire life, it made me think about what am I giving back to my society, what makes me a good human being, HOW IS MY LIFE REALLY WORTH LIVING?

The world’s total population is 7.4 billion. Now, let's take out just the disabled people from the whole population. Amongst the 7.4 billion people there are 1 billion people who are suffering with some kind of disability. Which leaves us with 6.4 billion people. Nearly ½ of the world’s population is suffering from poverty! Let’s take them all out. There are more than 3 billion people who live on less than $2.50 per day, more than 1.3 billion live in extreme poverty — less than $1.25 per day, and 1 billion children lived under poverty worldwide. So, that leaves us with only 1.1 billion people. About 8,000 people today died of hunger, and about 4,000 people died of contaminated water diseases.

Now think! What are you doing to this world? Are you making a difference? Is your life really worth living? This is my point. You need to commit to do something for others in your life. Just watching news everyday or hearing such horrifying statistics every time and then being terrified wouldn’t make any of them different or better. It would make them worse! The only thing that would make them better is if you would act on it. Make a difference. We are the ones who have made this world worse because we took it for granted, but we are the only ones who can save this world, make it a better place to live in.

Let me give you another example to make everything clear. The gas in our world that we use to fill up our cars and motorcycles will finish in about 59,123 days if consumed on current rates. How can you stop this problem? Just drive an electric car or a scooter, that's how simple it is. Now you are making a difference in this world because you are doing something different than what everybody else is doing. Your life has suddenly become worth living because you’re not thinking about you anymore, you are thinking about the whole world.

This is why I believe in making a difference. This is why I believe in making my life worth living. This is why I believe in making the world a better place to live in. It would come from nowhere else but you. Give it a thought, you don’t need to go to a charity, instead go to the poorest parts of wherever you live and sing the people there are song. If you cannot do anything just give them relief and at least make them feel that they exist in this world and you are doing something to make their lives better.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
