"Don't eat that! That's bad for you! Try this instead!" Diet this. Diet that. What if I told you your whole diet plan was a LIE? You think that all of the foods you are eating are healthy and good for you, but guess what, they are the complete opposite!
1. Those "store-bought" Smoothies You Buy
These smoothies are quick and easy right? Something to grab on the go to hold you over- and they even look healthy! However, these smoothies contain triple the amount of calories you think they do! Sure it's all fruit and fruit is good for you, but it isn't JUST fruit. It not only contains and excessive amount of fruit, but a variety of different sugars and syrups are added in for taste. If you want a healthy smoothie, you are better off taking the time to make one in your blender at home.
2. Trail Mix
We all LOVE munching on trail mix as a snack to hold us over between breakfast and lunch. Sure, there are some trail mixes that are somewhat healthy for you; anyhow, most of the trail mixes that grocery stores sell are loaded with calories.
3. Frozen Meals
When you look at the nutrition facts of a frozen meal, you think "oh, the calorie count isn't too bad so I guess I'll eat it!", while they may not have a crazy number of calories, they do have a crazy amount of sodium. They also don't provide the majority of the food groups that you need each day.
4. Granola Bars
I'd be lying if I said I didn't eat at least one granola bar a day. They're easy and taste good. While many of them can hold your appetite over for a few hours, the fixings they are made with are almost parallel to the ingredients that make up a candy bar.
5. Frozen Yogurt
Frozen yogurt is a good alternative over ice cream, right? Wrong! Frozen yogurt is filled with so many sugars that once it digests into your body it is no different to the number of calories ice cream has. There is a smart way to go about what flavor we get, what toppings we add, etc., but the majority of the time there is no difference between the traditional ice cream desserts and the frozen yogurt substitute.
6. "Fat Free" Foods
A "fat free" version of something is hard to turn down. There are fewer calories, but you still get the same great taste! However, the only reason it still has that same great taste is because it doesn't have less calories than the normal version. It's the same situation as the yogurt: fat free foods are filled with so much sugars that once it digests into your bodies' system it all goes to fat- which ends up being equivalent to the amount of fat stored from the regular version. There is a way to get around this, but a lot of foods do this to deceive you so make sure you pay close attention to what exactly it is you're eating!
Diets are a good thing, but make sure your diet is truly a "diet". Don't let these little tricks fool you!
