Is This What God Asked of You?

This world is not living in the light it meant to be.

The world becomes harder to live in every single day. How many tragic news stories have you heard in the past 48 hours? Your answer is cringe-worthy, I’m sure. That does not make it OK for these events to continue happening because these events will escalate if our society lets it. It is obvious that major changes need to be made, but we have more to blame than the government believe it or not. Some people need to start this change by taking a look in the mirror, and reevaluate the monster they have become. The government will only take you so far as proved in history. African Americans are granted all their civil rights, but police brutality still exists doesn’t it?

The Orlando shooting at The Pulse was the biggest mass shooting in American history leaving 50 people dead. Those 49 people are dead due to senseless violence. The news will give you a lot of statistics, but they won’t tell you much of anything else. What was going through this shooter's mind? Is this a hate crime? How did he access the gun? The questions are endless. Whether you agree or disagree with this man’s actions, this action the shooter took was unethical. Some people will stop reading this article right there, and go off on a religious rant on how this was not immoral at all. Some people think that this shooting was a favor while others are sickened to their stomach. Well which is it?

Let me tell you religion to my best understanding. The argument is that this shooting is “fine” because God does not want you to be gay, and it opposes the fundamentals of religious beliefs. Take a moment to think about this, do you think God is smiling back on 49 of his creations being destroyed? “They were gay anyway, he already wasn’t happy."

What is the number one thing God teaches us how to do? He teaches us love, and how important it is to love not just His followers, but everyone. Everyone has the right to be loved no matter who you are, or where you came from. God loves us all, God does not hate anyone. God dislikes your sins, not your entire existence. If someone choses to be gay, guess what? That is none of your business. It is not someone’s duty to correct another person’s actions. It is completely okay to disagree with being homosexual, it is unacceptable to change a person by shoving religious verses down their throats. I do not recall one part of any Bible saying, “Please harm, torment, and kill people who go against My Word." God only taught us how to love, you taught yourself how to hate. Someone else’s relationship with God is none of anyone’s business, except God and that person. God did not tell you to correct the world by killing people off. If you were really a follower of God, you would show the world his everlasting love. Once I’ve seen a quote on a church’s sign that read, “You may be the only Bible some people ever read." Is this how you want to represent God? Is this the reputation you uphold to the rest of the world. It does not matter what you believe in, everyone was taught how to love.

Look in the mirror, and realize the

type of person you are. Review all your actions, and check to make sure they line up with your set of beliefs. What light are you living in? If you realize it is not what you wanted, it is never too late to change it. We are not perfect, that is why you ask for forgiveness of your sins. Where do you code of ethics lie now? Is this what God asked of you? Or is this everything Lucifer has been waiting for?

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
