Three games, three dominating wins.
Most points scored in the NFL.
Least points given up in the NFL.
If someone were to say the team being talked about here would be the Philadelphia Eagles, would you believe them?
Probably not, but after three weeks, the Eagles are in fact undefeated and look like they could blow by expectations set for them by fans and media before the season began.
Following an unexpected 34-3 demolition of the Pittsburgh Steelers this past Sunday, Philly fans are beginning to wonder to themselves if this team has what it takes to take home the NFC East title, and why not?
Rookie quarterback Carson Wentz continues to shine (23-of-31 for 301 yards and two touchdowns against the Steelers), and Jim Schwartz's defense looks like one of the best in the league.
Through three games, the defense has given up 20 points (the other seven coming via special teams), which is the fewest in the league. They have yet to allow a touchdown through the air, and have recorded 10 sacks and six turnovers, three of which came from interceptions).
Combine that with the way Wentz is playing and the coaching of Doug Pederson (so far), and the Eagles may have a real shot at postseason football.
It's one thing if these three wins were due to late game field goals or a key defensive stop, but it's been the opposite.
All three victories have come in convincing fashion, with the most recent win putting Philly supporters into a state of delirium (no, they still probably won't be winning the Super Bowl this year).
But that doesn't mean hopes for a playoff game should diminish.
The NFC East is clearly there for the taking, and after watching them this past weekend, it seems the Eagles are the team that appears most equipped to deliver a division title to a fanbase that hasn't gotten playoff football since 2013.
It's almost surreal that this is all occurring so soon, considering they entered week one with a rookie quarterback AND a rookie head coach.
In his Monday Morning Quarterback column for Sports Illustrated, Peter King wrote:
“It shouldn’t be happening this fast for the Eagles, coming up from 7-9 with a rookie head coach and a rookie quarterback from North Dakota State and a defense that needed a new leader. But it is, and there’s nothing fluky about it. The Eagles are legitimate deep-into-January contenders right now.”
Raise your hand if you expected to read that last line at any point this season (if you have your hand raised, you're either lying or an Eagles player reading this).
King isn't the only one who has shown praise for Pederson's squad either.
Bleacher Report has the Eagles ranked fourth, ESPN put them at seven, and the NFL Network has them slotted at the six spot.
The national media has taken notice of what is happening in Philadelphia, and things seem to be heading in the right direction.
Only problem? Eagles fans will have to wait an extra week to see Wentz and Co. play again, as they have a bye this week.
Hey Bart Scott, is Wentz still "fool's gold"?
