The Polarization the United State Public Is Facing

Is The Two Party System Dying?

The recent nomination of Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump for candidates for the presidential election has been a failure of our two party democratic system. This failure has led to a polarization of society in the United States as people are forced to pick between two ideological extremes. In addition, the election has been dramatized by the media essentially adding fuel to the fire and starting controversy throughout the nation. As our political ideologies continue to diverge further away from each other, our society continues to separate from each other as well.

In other democratic societies, there are a multitude of political parties, however in the United States there are only two. No other party has broken into the political arena sufficiently. This has been a source of debate among scholars for many years. However, recently, these two ideologies have controlled over the masses and have diverged to the point of extremes. This has led to the American public questioning its own two party system as it seems both candidates are not what the public wants. The far leftist and rightist views have divided the masses into two groups with no middle ground and people are forced to essentially choose an extreme.

Both candidates have pushed this extreme division further. Neither candidate has attempted to consider the opposing views and continue to perpetuate the problem by slandering each other names rather than attacking policies. Neither candidate seems to have pride as every detail of their life is scrutinized as a form of entertainment rather than a source of intellectual debate. They encourage media propaganda in an effort to gain popularity rather than attempt to solve the problems within the United States. This attack of one another has led to animosity not only between the parties, but the American public as well.

This animosity that is perpetuated by the presidential candidates has extended to every aspect of the American public as there is no longer a middle ground and hatred toward each other. This has led to a polarization of our political system and has pointed out a serious shortcoming in our society. The two party democratic system is a major social shortcoming as it encourages polarization and extremism. Rather than having multiple views, there are just two main views and they oftentimes and exact opposites of one another. In other democratic societies, they run off a multi-party system allowing a wide range of stances resulting in society not being so drastically polarized. They offer a wide range of middle grounds for the masses to pick from and encourage a wide array of ideas and solutions.

In America, the two party system has become a popularity contest rather than a center for intellectual debate on politics resulting in a stagnation of thought. They concern themselves with money and sponsors rather than policy. The idea of winning and the sponsors it brings has replaced the notion of selecting the best candidate and allowing extremism to dominate the political arena.

As the debates and election continue to unfold, the division will only get deeper within our society. The allowance of such extremes has been a failure of our own two party system a both parties have become concerned with money and sponsors rather than selecting the best candidate. Essentially this election allows no middle ground as each candidate continues to diverge further away. The American public is forced to consider if our two party system is truly failing.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
