It's A Tough Pill To Swallow, But Summer Classes Are Worth Skipping A Few Days At The Pool

Trade in your sunglasses and Yetis for books and pencils a few days this summer.

Ever consider summer classes may be the smart move instead of wasting your days away just being lazy or working on your tan? Well if you have, or even haven't then here are a few reasons why it may be a good idea and you'll thank yourself later...

Getting ahead, or Catching up

Giphy

You can easily get a leg up on your peers by signing up for one or two courses this summer. No, you don't have to take a full schedule, but a few hours a week isn't going to kill you when you'd probably be sleeping or tanning anyway. Trust me, you'll thank yourself later when you would be taking the classes and you have extra time.

Credits, Credits, Credits

Giphy

The more credits you have, the sooner you'll get to graduate or take an easier course load senior year when classes are supposed to be the hardest. It's always nice to come back to school and have a few more credit hours under your belt, so you can actually enjoy your semester instead of spending all-nighters at the library where your only friends are your books.

It could raise your GPA

Giphy

... or potentially destroy it. Depending on if you actually put in the work during the summer and TRY in your classes, it could be a huge GPA booster that could help you out if you struggled some past semesters, or give you a step up if you're planning on taking a hard schedule in the future.

It will make coming back to your school routine a bit easier

Giphy

Ever come back after a carefree summer break and barely be able to get up for your 11 a.m. class? We've all been there...unless you're pushing yourself to get up during the summer or spending a decent amount of time on work during the week, it will make things so much easier. Plus you can get all those bio and math classes out of the way so you don't have to fret about them during the school year. So work now=naps later.

You could study abroad without a penalty

Giphy

Typically, if someone chooses to study abroad, then they are setting themselves back a semester or even a year because international universities don't always offer the correct transferable courses or don't have exactly what you're looking for. But it's worth it to spend three months in Italy or London right? Wrong. Unless you get ahead when during the summer and take classes so you won't fall behind and not get to graduate with all your friends who stayed on campus.

You could meet new people, or take an online class if you're on the go

Giphy

Why not take the chance? You could potentially make new friends for life. You can help each other out in the class, or inspire each other to take summer classes in the future together. The possibilities are endless. Also, if you already have a job or internship lined up, there are always online classes, and when are they convenient! You can still sit out on the beach while getting your work done at the same time. Thank you technology.

So if you're debating about whether it's worth spending that extra time this summer on books instead of beaches... just go for it, because it's beyond worth it when you go back to school in the fall and can trade straight As in you already made for weekends with friends.

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

If you’re anything like me, you love a good cup of coffee. My coffee always comes from Starbucks; I refuse to drink it from anywhere else. Over the years, it’s become one of my biggest addictions. College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate. It can be overwhelming at times and it’s important to take a step a back and calmly think things over. Maybe gain some perspective.
