To The Girl That Isn't Sure Sorority Recruitment Is For Her

I get you. I do. I was there, too.

At first, I was sure Greek Life was what I wanted. I signed up for Recruitment as soon as possible, and eagerly began shopping for outfits. As move in day got closer, my indecision about Recruitment grew. I had never been a girly girl, I hadn't always meshed well with girls, and I sure as hell didn't like the idea of them judging me off of a 15-minute conversation and what dress I was wearing.

All of it is stressful.

Getting the recs, finding the outfits, figuring out how on earth you are going to keep your hair from frizzing in the pouring rain while sprinting from house to house. It's honestly not a process I would wish on anyone, or ever repeat again, but it's the way that it works. Getting ready for rush is hard, and rush is harder. Its stressful. It's draining. It's heartbreaking.

But after a week, Bid Day comes around.

And then your new member retreat. Your first social. Your first pledge social. Your first sister that becomes a friend. Your Big. Slowly but surely, you'll reap the rewards of Recruitment. You'll meet some of the most amazing people in your life. You'll stay out until 2 a.m. singing at the top of your lungs, dripping sweat from dancing. You'll cram 11 girls in a 4 person hotel room, just to go to the beach. You'll dress up as a Dalmatian, a cowgirl, and celebrate Mardi Gras (just because).

A year later I can gladly say recruitment is just a distant memory.

A small stepping stone to the greatest year I have ever experienced. If you can see past the chants and the cheers, the blisters on your feet, the small talk and the tears, I promise you: this will be the best decision you ever make.

Sign up for recruitment, because you aren't just signing up for one week of rush, you're signing up for the friends- and experiences- of a lifetime.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.
