Don't get me wrong- I love the Kardashians. I watch their cheesy show, like their Instagram pictures, and I usually feel like I am pretty up to date on what is happening in their lives but when Forbes came out with Kylie being "self-made" I was a little taken aback.
I think Kylie is a very successful businesswoman. She is very knowledgeable about her brand and what she wants to accomplish with her makeup line. Personally, as a huge makeup addict, I love Kylie Cosmetics. The formulas, colors, and range of products make her line so popular and successful. Her iconic lip kit became a staple for makeup lovers all over the world because of its formula. Kylie also isn't partnered with another brand for her makeup line, further proving how she is so successful independently. Her company has grown from just lip kits to highlighters, powders, eye shadow pallettes, and much more. She has also modeled, created a clothing line with her sister that is sold in PacSun, and makes money of social media endorsements.
With all of this said, I do not believe Kylie is self-made. Rich? Yes. Successful? Definitely. But...her previous fame from her family definitely contributed to her individual fame and fortune. Do I think she could have made the brand successful if her last name was not Jenner? For me, I don't think she could of. There's a certain trend that becomes popular when you buy products from a celebrity, they get hyped up. For Kylie, I believe this hype contributed to her billionaire status.
Nonetheless, it is amazing to become a billionaire in only living for 21 years. To me, even if she did it with help and wasn't "self-made," I still think it's pretty impressive.
